blackpulpit 10 Posted February 3, 2010 When I have an AI unit in my coop and he is carrying a SMAW or anti tank weapon and I order him to take out a tank, why do they simply get up and run towards the tank instead of using there anti tank weapon from the spot they are already at? how can I get my AT man to stay put and take out a particular tank? any help with this would be appreciated, thanks. Say he is F6, I press F6 place my crosshairs over tank and get the crosshair up and order him to take out tank...is this correct or do I press F6 then 2 then give order to take out tank at particular direction? either way they do not immediately switch from there rifle to there AT weapon and taske it out, they get up and start to head towards the target and place themselves in a dangerous situation...any ideas what I need to do besides use it myself to destroy a tank? jasonnoguchi 11 Posted February 3, 2010 Thats exactly why most mission makers give you the option to teamswitch to the AT gunner and the sniper in your group. They just don't behave the way their weapons demand them to. However, lets not discount it totally as I have seen AT soldiers behaving correctly, taking out tanks with AT4 from proper distances. :)
sprayer_faust 0 Posted February 3, 2010 I don't use the engage order (to left-click on a tank with an AT unit selected). In fact I very rarely use engage, because it makes them break formation. It is better to use the right-click instead, which has the desired effect. If the assigned target is a tank and if your soldier has AT rounds he will take aim and shoot from the current position (in fomation; or an ordered spot...). He will hold fire if there is a hold fire command, but if there is not and he still does not fire, you can tell him to do so: <unit>,3,3 (the fire command) - just to make sure. If he is out of ammo for AT he will not even deploy it (I think...), which is good. But I would still like him to tell me if he is out and he doesn't. However I preffer <unit>,2,<target> than right-clicking on a target. It gives you a nice list of spotted targets and you can very quickly choose the high priority ones. Potatomasher 0 Posted February 3, 2010 as I have seen AT soldiers behaving correctly, taking out tanks with AT4 from proper distances. :) Yes i have noticed this too. At far distances they are very efficient killing machines. AI soldier with javelin & +300m = almost certain hit everytime. but if the armored target is close by the AI don't shoot and eventually get himself killed. That's why i usually keep SMAW with me if possible.
