1.4 to 1.5 = Desktop crash?

Recommended Posts

I don't have Nvidia drivers. Nonetheless, my drivers ARE up to date. My PC can easily handle ArmA2 on whatever settings I want. My problem is that I can't even get to the settings, because the game crashes to me desktop right before the main menu appears.

1.04 works fine, 1.05 doesn't, where oh where would the problem be?

What is your card? and what driver version? This is Vanilla A2 with no mods? You have deleted(or renamed) your arma2.cfg. And what is in your arma2.cfg?

@bulldog

sry but this has nothing to do with the real problem in here !

if you install a new motherboard you have to install a fresh windows for sure.

and surly noone really cares about your "i-install-a-new-windows" routine.

and all your tip-offs like updating drivers or how to install a fresh arma2 is like redundant because we all know how to install a game or drivers. ^^

and WE wont install a fresh new windows, when the real issue is somewhere in the new update of 1.05.

so,dont misunderstand me,this is no offense against you.

WE JUST WANT REAL HELP IN HERE !

;-)

I couldnt agree more

;1557086']Hi' date=' I cant help you much but it definetaly is not a problem with 64bit os as I am running 1.05 fine on win7 64bit. Could be the fault of x64 XP tho :S[/quote']

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with 8GB DDR3 & Core 2 Extreme QX9770 & x2 ATI 4890, 1.04 and previous works, 1.05 fails to run.

So most here(the hundreds of posters on this forum) have had no issues going from 1.04 to 1.05., and everybody in this thread have nvdia drivers.... Then Bulldog does his fix with a new clean OS and DRIVERS, and we have Swat_bigbear with the great tip on VideoMemory(hint, hint).

There will be no new 1.05.fix.for.seelix.

Best try some new NVDA drivers, and or settings, NightVision works fine, that is a true sign of wonky driver or settings...Maybe your asking too much from your H/W to run such high settings in S/W...?

Make sure HT is off in your Bios.

I'm having this issue along with a few other people and we are using ATI cards with the latest drivers.

I just managed to get my game to work.

Try this, it may or may not work for you.

  • Un-install the game (again)
  • Delete any folders left over (yet again)
  • Restart your machine
  • Re-Install the game (One more time with feeling)
  • Before installing the patch, run the game in single player mode up to the first game save.
  • Then install the patch (browse some adult content while you wait) lmao
  • Then run the game and see how you get on.

This just worked for me, I'm now in the game and ready to destroy everyone else that managed to get it to work. Woohoo....

See you on the battle field troopers... :yay:

You, sir, win an internet. I got it running.

Leaves me wondering what exactly fixed it. Maybe its the SP save thing, only thing I hadn't done before.

Thanks!

well,i did it exactly the way you told us,but for me it didnt work.

but it has 100% something to do with the 1.05 patch because,as i said before,my game always crashes when its dark. it doesnt crash when i let it unpatched at v1.00 !! after installing 1.05 the same crap goes on and on.

i also tried the new beta patch, but the game still CTD when its getting dark on the maps.

Try downloading the patch from another source. Also try installing the patch twice (install it once then install it again to make sure it changed everything, you'll get xdelta errors on files it won't change on the second patch attempt, ignore those)

well,at first i must say, i never said i had STEAM running.so no xdelta errors on me.but yes i tried to install the patch twice.nothing happend.

but the most weird thing is : since i installed ISLA DUALA 1.3 it was possible for me to play on dark maps up to 30-45 minutes !

:dancehead:

Then read my arma2.mdmp file and noticed that there was a problem with sound frequency. 44100,

I had my speakers set to 16 bit 32000 Hz, i changed the frequency to 16bit 44100Hz and the game loaded first time!! Its the sound file of the naval ship flyby that crashes because it cant play the sound.. but now it can ;)

it works and now i have patch 1.5

whoop whoop!

Hope someone elses gets resolved from this because i know how blimming frustrating it has been!

I too found that sound was causing my crashes. I have a wireless Plantronics headset that runs at a frequency that causes the game to crash. I have to disable the device to start arma properly. I also found that I had many in game glitches prior to updating my sound drivers for my sound card. Once those where up to date the sound and visual issues I was having have gone away.

I did also run the directX install that comes on the CD as it is not the default one that comes with Windows 7. If I'm not mistaken Arma uses 9 and not 10. Installing the older directx might help some of you guys with random game crashes.

Running

Windows 7 64-bit

Intel I7

6gm ram

Nvidia gtx 285

I don't want this 1.5 version, it sounds rubbish.

I'll stick with my 1.05.

I once had those annoying randomly CTD's and fixed it by changing my ingame video memory from default to high. Generally having your settings too high eventhough you feel it's fine can cause sudden CTD'S!!!

But try all video memory settings if you not already have and see if one of them fixes your CTD issue.

I don't want this 1.5 version, it sounds rubbish.

I'll stick with my 1.05.

LOL :p
