sound editing for mission

Recommended Posts

Basically I've been using Audacity to record and convert voice recordings, but I was wondering what you guys use to edit the sound to include radio static/beeps/other effects? A friend from these forums offered to do this for me but he seems to have disapeared recently . . .

Anyways I've found some stuff on google, but nothing that isn't some gimmick or lets me do what I really want.

Thanks in advance!

Jon

hey m8,

Audacity is multitrack capable. So if what your asking is what application is freely available to mix sounds, then audacity will do it for you. If you can work on a Linux box or mac, then I recommend getting hold of Ardour ::

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardour_(audio_processor)

http://www.ardour.org/

LMMS is for pc, also an excellent multitracker, likeness to ardour, Logic, Nuendo.

http://lmms.sourceforge.net/screenshots.php

If your asking what application can assist making blips and interesting sonic environments, then I recommend:

caotica2 for pc users :: http://caotica2.reynerie.org/

Soundhack for mac users. :: http://www.soundhack.com/

Also

Pmix is good for effects mixing :: http://www.olilarkin.co.uk/

Mp3splt - mp3 and ogg splitter :: http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3splt_page/home.php

WaveSurfer sound analysis/manipulation :: http://www.speech.kth.se/wavesurfer/index.html

and

http://www.buzzmachines.com/whatisbuzz.php (never used, but looks interesting)

in terms of free apps there are literally hundreds and some are just better than others. Hope that helps,

cheers,

Hi there

I'm using wavelab for sound editing. First, defining radio files in the description.ext will make you radiofiles sounds with a bit of static noise. Second the beep is played automatically when defining radio classes, but it's only working for radio classes. Now if I want to do my own radio static thing I have to edit the soundfile in my editing programm. I'm using equaliziers to make it sound "small" as a phone or radio, as for the distortions I'm using some plug-ins for example a guitar distortion like quadrafuzz and I can do every kind of different distortions for e.g. heavy or light distortions and so on. The results are different sounding radio sounds.

But the icky part is the definition of all the different sound classes in the description.ext

kind regards

I both record and edit in Audacity.

Guess how I make the radio beeps and static... I ripped them from an Apache guncam clip. :D Sounds quite realistic. Now I have a template which I can use for radio sounds. One of the missions I have used that technique for is SiC's Operation Irene.
