Harddisk load

Recommended Posts

ingame when I turn around or do anything that change what is on the monitor my I can hear that my harddisk is working. this causes lag down to 10-15 fps (sometimes even lower) while when I look strait forward without anything happening I got 30-ish fps. What causes this? my harddisk is defragged and filled up to about 60%. (also in two partisions, one for windows, one for games and programs, Other stuff is on external)

My specs:

XP pro 32 bit.

Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2,4 GHz

4 GB RAM (3,25 active)

Radeon HD 4870 Vapor-x 1024 MB

PS: extra question: should I format and reinstall windows?

If you just used the Windows defrag then you still will have slow load times as it's a very basic defragger that only keeps single files together but in no particular order. Use something like UltimateDefrag and tag the Arma2 folder for performance; which will put all the files in that directory on the outside of the HDD platter (which tends to have the fastest load times).

I tried to use the defrag function in "gamebooster" (It has a function to defrag seperate directories), it says that the files are not fragmented after I used win defrag..

put your game on separate HDD/SSD. Get a faster CPU... I assume your View Distance is 1200m and you resolution is in the 1400/900 area?
