Check if your video memory is set correctly in the ArmA2.cfg. The game usually doesn't detect it correctly.

ArmA2.cfg is by default located in (I dont know how this is in Vista, but for XP it is: ) C:\Documents and Settings\*user*\My Documents\ArmA2\Users\*user* . Use the search function if you don't find it. Open it with notepad and change the "localVRAM" value to the correct one. The value is in bytes.

Example:

1 kB = 2^10 B =1024 B

1 MB = 2^10 kB = 1024 kB = 1024 *1024 B

.

.

.

etc.

So if you have 1024 MB video memory your value should be 1024^3 = 1073741824 or less (but try less only if after this the game still crashes; experiment).

After that, save the file and make it read only (for safe keepings). Then play and report back. I hope this helps.

There was several vista compatibility issues that were addressed in the patch. If you get anymore crashes, make sure all mods are disabled and test again, then print your arma 2 crash information (in spoiler notes)

Thanks for replying. The problem came back (after patching to 1.05 and changing the amount of vRAM the game was using), and I'm unable to get a crash log because the screen freezes. It only seems to happen occasionally, though, so maybe I should just put up with it.

Ideas to try:

- read through optimisation threads on this forum and try different things (I heard that it is recommended to disable hyper-threading.)

- try Game Booster (it disables windows services that are not needed when playing the game)

- also check your GPU temperature via some program (like Riva Tuner: you can set up direct monitoring or just enable logging and check it out afterwards)

Sounds like an overheating issue if the computer reboots/locks up.
