Tom_Anger 0 Posted November 27, 2009 This is an invite for you to sign up and contribute if you enjoy group PVP practices and competitions, regardless if you are in a league or not and regardless if you are in a team/clan or not. No commitments or obligations required. This discussion group may start off slow and will most likely be removed if it doesn't produce much fruit over time(meaning activity, lol): BI's Social Group for gamers who wish to setup practices, scrimmages, matches This is NOT for gamers who only want to discuss events with COOP or WARFARE, etc. It is strictly Player/Team against other Players/Teams. WARFARE is in part PVP, but not in the realm of 20-30 minute round competitions. If someone wants to follow the coat tails of this discussion group and start a Discussion Group for COOP, WARFARE, DOMINATION, etc., feel free. Here is the main reason for creating the group I personally have had the opportunity of running leagues, tournaments, etc. in various games such as Joint Operations Typhoon Rising, Ghost Recon, COD 4, etc., but enough about me :). I see a couple of leagues out there trying to see ARMA 2 successful in the ladder circuit, but only see 1 or 2 gametypes being offered and know there are other gametypes of interest. I believe we all understand and accept the fact that ARMA 2 is a simulation game and the desire for group competition may not be on the priority list, however, there are some who would like to give it a shot, thus the reason for the discussion group. Why have a discussion group when there is a Multiplayer forum to conduct discussions? The irony is this post is in a Multiplayer forum, but this Discussion group is more of a place for folks to put efforts on scheduling specific events such as practices and scrimamges without spamming the Multiplayer Forums. Not that throwing up posts in the Multiplayer section is a bad idea (it is actually a good idea to publically post something in the BI Multiplayer forums). Some groups practice or scrimamge each week or a couple times a month where days and times vary so rather than spamming up forums, spam the Discussion group. Some folks are interested in practices and may need to fill player slots to make it sucessfull. Some hold practices in various gametypes that others either never heard of or never realized because a formal discussion was never posted. How do gaming leagues fit in all this? Ultimately league admins may acquire information from associated group discussions and implement them in their leagues to get teams to sign up at their site. Not everyone signs up at a gaming league for one reason or another and as a result some good suggestions may not make it to their attention. If this Social Discussion Group becomes active enough it may be useful. What type of discussions can take place in the Competitions (Practices, Scrimmages & Official Matches) group? Create a New Group Discussion when you are holding a practice and need gamers to attend to fight against your team or fill slots needed to make the practice successful. Create a New Group Discussion when you know you will have team members on a specific day/night and want to scrimmage another team. Create a New Group Discussion when you know you will have team members on a specific day/night and want to make some formal challenge for another team to accept. If you aren't in a team/clan, but may want to take part in filling slots for practices or scrimmages. Reply in the Suggestions/Comments Group Discussion on anything regarding competitive gaming or the group in general. Anything else you feel will get players vested in your event's Read the group discussions often to see what type of activity takes place and if you see something that meets your gametype curiosities feel free to respond to a related Discussion topic that someone posted on (if there are any, lol). Sometimes you don't know how fun a specific gametype is until you try it with a good group of gamers. Anyway, that's the reason for the Discussion Group. It will either flop over time or help folks coordinate communications on practices, scrimmages, etc and may be something to help leagues. You never know until you try. I'd rather try to help even if it flops. Happy Gaming all.
Tom_Anger 0 Posted November 27, 2009 I'll be watching too, lol. Figured what the heck on setting this up. Couldn't hurt to see if folks want to utilize it. I may use it at some point.
helo 10 Posted November 27, 2009 Once again I have to mention CFArma2 , which is no clan at all, but a weekly massively and coordinated battle between two sides. These two armies fight for the control of several 500m x 500m areas. Additionally, these sides have limited armor support, mortar support and air transport vehicles to get their troops in and around the actual combat zone. When you re interested or curious about this weekly social event: www.cfarma2.com
Tom_Anger 0 Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) Yep - cfarma is quite organized for large scale battles. I'm not sure if cfarma is like what IC Arma used to be, but I took part in IC Arma back in the day and even contributed to JO:IC back in the day. There are some communities out there with opened invites to game like Clan Base GGL, ARMA Leagues, etc. I think part of this focus was toward or getting small groups of players together to enjoy fun competitive sessions. cfarma is a bit larger, but may be what people are looking for as well. A month or 2 ago I made a poll post regardnig some specific gametypes and the results showed alot of short rounded tactical/objective style sessions. I'm trying to go off that info to the next step. Hopefully with smaller groups who wish to implement and game in some small scaled tactical objective style games (say 20 minute or 30 minute attack & Defend or Seek and Destroy) this section can provide to be of some use to get gamers on the same page with the missions, servers, practices, etc. Edited November 27, 2009 by Tom_Anger spelling corrections
sbsmac 0 Posted November 28, 2009 Great idea Tom, I'm signed up.
Tom_Anger 0 Posted November 28, 2009 The issue I see here is not many folks are on board with the social group aspect of the BI forums so another thought would be that if teams or groups want to setup a practice or scrimmage that they can reply in this forum with the mention that they setup details in the Practices, Scrimmages, and Matching Social Group. That way this post gets bumped giving visibility then the group gets more visibility. Could sound redundant, but I am all for it as well. Yes, No, Thoughts ...??? sbsmac 0 Posted November 28, 2009 An alternative would be set up a google-wave - this looks like quite a good collaborative tool for making arrangments.
.kju 3245 Posted November 28, 2009 IRC, Skype group channel, x-fire channel (I guess it has this). ESL gather might be another option. First you need to understand that most league people nor public players visit this forum. So you need to go to their site and forums to talk to them.
