Arma 1 maps - useable in Arma 2?

Arma 1 Islands... can you use them in Arma 2?

I never got Arma 1, but someone was telling me about Arvani and was wondering if it would work in Arma 2?

If not, anyone planning to produce a similar map (large city with surrounding area)?

yes but you need to download 2gig of CAA1 mod for them to be compatible.

bfalcon: as MattXR said you need CAA1 project. Otherwise I'm making an African map right now and it will feature big towns. But mostly in size of Southern Sahrani towns :)

Ice: oooh... can't wait - (I just realised where I'd seen your name before - I've been trying out your Panthera map)

I just found Gnat's Sands map and that would be excellent with some populations on there.

I prefer to fly the helis around, but our guys are primarily infantry and seem to love urban warfare, so a large map with a built up area would be a good comprimise.

Not least, any tank that pokes his nose out of that town/city, I'd like to feel vunerable :)

What do you need to get into island design?

I ported an older version of Domination (A2 West AI) back to Sahrani a while back to coincide with the CAA1 release so there'd be at least one popular mission available when it came out... It's a little out of date now I guess, but you can still get it at this thread.

I also did a customised East AI version specially for RogueTrooper and the 13th SOAG Clan - also for Sahrani... you can get that here.

I got about halfway thru porting Domination to Panthera too, but got kinda sidetracked on that one since I'm currently learning island tools and I'm not really a missions-type guy anyway...

CAA1 is well worth the download and the slight setup fuss, once its in and working it's just another modfolder, no real hassle - and it gets you Sahrani - a great island with decent sized towns, plus... having CAA1 in place means that you can - with the occasional microfuss - get most other A1 islands working too, such as Schmalfelden, Avgani & Afghan Village, Snowy Drago, Uhao, the FDF (A1) mod island Podoga, and several others.....
