Where is the easter egg?

Recommended Posts

The country where I was born (Czechoslovakia as it was then known) we used to whip girls as well as spill water on them in any way imaginable.  They liked it (hee hee) and gave us money, chocolates, and of course eggs in return.

Here in America they appear to have different customs, something about finding eggs in lawn ?  Doesn't sound like too much fun, but if I tried spilling water or whipping chicks I'm sure I'd get the s*hit sued out of me as everyone in the US of A appears to take advantage of the judicial system and tries to make money by sueing anyone for anything : )

welcome to what is known in America as a hallmark holiday. originally a Christian holiday it has turned into a sell candy/cards day for every religion in order to turn a profit.

Oh but you forgot to say that it's not a holiday unless you give a Hallmark brand card. Sure they're 2 dollars more than other cards, but the holiday is so much more enjoyable with that little logo in the back : )

And the pity of it is, that many Americans totally believe in this crap-filled corporate propaganda.

Actually pirated from a Pagan festival. Eostre's spring rites. The quartered circle ( hot cross bun ) being a symbol of balance and the easter bunny being a symbol of the goddess and fertility!

You MIGHT be correct when referring to Catholic and Protestant easter.

But you are WRONG when talking about the Greek Orthodox Easter. In the Greek Orthodox church, Easter is the most important holiday, not Christmas. I guess it makes sense as Jesus was born on Christmas. Being born is something that everyone goes through wink.gif But only Jesus was capable of resurrecting, and that happened on Easter. Hence, Easter is more important as Jesus did something REALLY astonishing. That is why I think the Orthodox church thinks more of Easter than Christmas.

Anyway, back to Easter, it does change every year in the Orthodox church (Greek anyway, don't know about the Russian); for instance, this year it is in May. I do not know the reason for this, but I do assume it has something to do with the day on which Christ was resurrected.

So yeah, the Orthodox church is celebrating Easter 'cos of Jesus.

I once attended a Greek easter party, with all it includes.

I got so sick from the wine (must have been a bad year, lol) that I haven't celebrated easter ever since.

Well I might suggest that the Pagan festivals predated ALL christian sects and the ressuraction theme is at least 5000 years old somewhat beating Christ's 2000. But your right that I spoke more of western european christianity and I don't now the Greek or Russian churches in the least. Nor am I so familiar with the Greek and Mediteranian legends where the Goddess was better known as Ishtar, Astarte or Aset but I'm sure if you look into the background shes still there.

Here we set easter by the phase of the moon ( first sunday after the first full moon after lent if I remember ) and its probably the last carry over from the old pagan lunar calander.

Have to say I like living in a country that is still full of Pagan undercurrents.

None of which helps us find the easter eggs in OFP.
