Eurocopter tiger in il?

Recommended Posts

I was gazing through the IL pics again dreaming of the day when I will be able to happily conduct Marine amphibious assaults when I noticed something on the ol' IL splash screen.  If you look at the 2nd pic from the  bottom on the right hand side (buried underneath the Sea Knight pic), it looks like a Eurocopter Tiger.  Thats about the only chopper I can think of that looks that way:

il_splash.jpg

Ohter people probably have noticed this but I've never heard any mention of it so I thought I'd fill in anyone who hasnt noticed....

I remember reading on Janes defence that the Australian army has decide to purchase Tiger choppers instead of AH-64s' because they have a better performance record. But we dont know what we might get in IL. Sharp eyes.

K'know, I think you may just have stumbled on to something. I never heard any mention of a Eurocopter in IL, and God knows I've been following it  biggrin.gif. At first I thought maybe I was looking at a reskinned AH1 but then I went into OFP and took a screenshot, and cropped the same section as it shows in the IL splash. Take a look  and compare for yourself:

You can see some very obvious differences...

YAY more toys!! biggrin.gif

I don't care wich chopper whooops wich's ass. My fav has always been (and prolly will always be) the Apache smile.gif

But the more , the merrier. New choppers are always a good addition. Just a shame I can't see a MI-28 Havoc in there. Atleast it would have given a bit competition to the Apache in OFP biggrin.gif

Don't you dare turn this into another Apache vs. Hind flame thread. They're both good in their own way. Apache turns better, Hind takes more damage and can carry troops, Apache's missiles are more powerful and accurate, while in the Hind the crew has NO fear of small arms...so in short, they're both damn good but in different ways. There happy?

Personally I also want more choppers, but what I want more than anything else is an improvement in the simulation of all the existing AC.

Looks like we're gonna have at least one new gunship in IL...now I just want the Mi-28 or preferably the Ka-50/52

I hope for a MI-28 over a KA-50/52, because I know the Havoc better than a Hokum. Prolly because of Apache vs Havoc. I only bought Comanche vs Hokum to get an *updated* version of Apache vs Havoc biggrin.gif

And in my opinion the Havoc looks cooler and tougher than the Hokum.

lol ok I guess we're gonna have a friendly Hokum vs Havoc flame since theyre not in OFP (yet). I personally think the Havoc looks better biggrin.gif. It's newer, has more state of the art equipment, and the original Ka-50 model was the first operational gunship to require only one crewmember and to field an ejection seat

hehe You can't start a 'flame-war' with me on the subject of "Havoc vs Hokum", buddy biggrin.gif

I know too little on the subject to make any statements wink.gif

All I can say are my opinions based on 'looks' and 'numbers' from a data-sheet (wich actually proves nothing on how the chopper handles in real-life).

Alot of variable comes into play when judging wich aircraft is better (maintenance costs, spare-parts costs, amount of flight-hours between services etc...) What I mean is that there is more to it that top-speed and acceleration biggrin.gif

So my opinion is still 'Havoc looks better'. But nothing beats the Apache (IMO) when it comes to looks tounge.gif

Well, I doubt you'll see either of them in IL...I'm pretty sure that Indonesia hasnt aquired either of them just yet lol. I have no clue what types of weapons and equipment Indonesia uses but you can probably expect to get them in IL, not state-of-the art Russian equipment.

Taken from Army Technology:

"In August 2001, Eurocopter, with the Tiger ARH (armed reconnaissance), was selected as the sole tenderer for the Australian Army’s Air 87 requirement for 22 helicopters. The Tiger ARH is a modified version of the Tiger HAP with upgraded MTR390 engines and a laser designator incorporated in the Strix sight for the firing of Hellfire air-to-ground missiles. The first Tiger ARH is scheduled to enter service in 2004. Australian Aerospace are to set up a local production facility for assembly of the helicopters and the manufacture of parts for the entire programme."

And that screenshot looks mighty convincing that a Tiger is goin' to be in IL - which perhaps takes the UH-1 gunships outta the equation sad.gif

I don't think Indonesia's helicopter fleet is anything to write home about, I can't remember seeing any Indonesian choppers on the news. No doubt though, that they'd be hunks of crap (eg. Mi-8's or Hormones - *shudder*), as everything else in the Indonesian inventory is pretty cruddy (they bought a budget East German navy off the commies in the early 90's)

Why does that take the UH-1 out of the equation??

Yeah, just because a Tiger is in the game doesnt mean you cant have a Huey... I mean, the Huey is right in the damn screenshot lol. Besides, Im not entirely convinced its a Tiger; the cockpit angles are wrong and the rotor cowling is different than in that pic of the real Tiger

I meant the Australian Huey gunships, which the Tigers are being bought to replace...

I'm sure other UH-1s will be in there (eg. the white one). The camoflague on the Tiger in the screenshot looks like the current Australian Army helicopter camo that we use on our Blackhawks (look at the photo on the left, second from the bottom & compare with image below)

I have shot down an Apache before with a hind but the person who was piloting it was green becasue he turned and tried to get away!

but I also agree with everyone about being a tiger the only other posiblity was the Rooivalk AH-2A but form a closer look I am 99% sure that it is the tiger.

the rooivalk is a south african helicopter , and the story is about australian forces in east timor ................. and the australian forces use the tiger ... so it's not very difficult

On a side note, those are not UH-1's, they are Australian S-70 Blackhawks. The UH-1 Iroquois is a medium transport chopper used by the U.S. Marines, also known as the Huey.

Here is a pic of it in IL:

Ah, the attack huey talk.

As much as I am a fan of the ol' AH-64, (I like the Longbow version much better) I think the Tiger would be a great addition to il... I remember talking about this back in the old operationflashpoint.com forums... wish they were still up. confused.gif
