zyklone 1 Posted November 3, 2009 (edited) This one is doing much better with regard to FPS atleast. It's using both cores on our server also. For around 75% of total available while running an AI vs AI crCTI. The FPS is still dropping though, will have to wait and see if it stabilizes. Bebul 0 Posted November 3, 2009 Hi Maruk,I the case of a dual CPU socket server (not multi-core system) could Arma2 server be enabled to operate on both CPUs rather than just one? Thanks Regards I mean it just do not work on single thread now, so when your server has more CPUs it should be recognized and used automatically. If not, you can experiment! You can even use something like -cpuCount=2 on singlecore server too, only the created additional thread will be running on the same CPU.
Dwarden 1125 Posted November 3, 2009 also if you have CPU with HyperThreading please test if adding more threads than cores helps or actually degrade the performance ... also if anyone of you got hosted server on virtualized environment some feedback would be nice ... Master85 1 Posted November 3, 2009 running latest linux server (Build 59923) on a dualcore atom 1,6 GHz; 1GB Ram; - just for testing 2. Low FPS when there are some burning fires: not fixed for me: after mission start: cpu usage: 11-13% ; 49 fps 00 min after spawning 1 Land_Campfire_burning cpu usage starts to rise slowly 05 min 36% ; 49 fps 10 min 100% ; 49 fps 15 min 100% ; 20 fps 25 min 100% ; 8 fps mem usage constant at 115 MB more fires -> faster fps drop

You can even use something like -cpuCount=2 on singlecore server too, only the created additional thread will be running on the same CPU. Thanks I'll try that setting (-cpuCount=2) coz till now without it, Arma server only used 49% of CPU meaning that only grabbed one of the 2 CPUs available. Cheers
H5N1 10 Posted November 3, 2009 the same here, we have a i7 core and set the cpucount=4, after 30min we have only 8 fbs and ki is jumping around like jumpstyler :P Next Problem: If all player disconnected and the server is emty, the server runs along with 100% greetz
zyklone 1 Posted November 3, 2009 (edited) After a long CTI game I've found one bug. The server FPS decayed alot and at the end (after 2 hours) the server was at around 4 FPS. But the funny stuff started after the mission ended. The server went back to "waiting" state as it should. However the CPU use continues. It's now stuck with one thread at 100% cpu use and one thread using no cpu. This is with no user connected and no mission loaded. There was one somewhat odd line in the log when the mission ended. I used the same mission I tried before to reproduce, and after 45-60 seconds the drop in fps starts.
Herbal Influence 10 Posted November 3, 2009 (edited) I can confirm sharp fps-drop within 40 min of gaming - just me alone with 7 AIs on my side and 8 AIs on the other .... JIP was not possible. EDIT: With latest files JIP was possible now. Edited November 4, 2009 by Herbal Influence
Bebul 0 Posted November 4, 2009 I can confirm this. I used the same mission I tried before to reproduce, and after 45-60 seconds the drop in fps starts. Confirmed in BIS too. Both Burning Fires and horrendous CPU use after mission end.
Joe_Cool 0 Posted November 4, 2009 Ok, now the server is able to run on two cores, as we observed it on windows. But it seems like the server code still can't split the AI-computing part into two or more threads, which is the most important one. I run the test-mission without cpucount and with cpucount 3 and 4. There was no difference between those runs. After at least 30 min the server dropped to 16-17 FPS, but the server process never produced load over 150% (100% = 1 core at full load). Mostly it was at around 120% CPU load. Test-mission: Warfare BE 2.0.44, 10 AI squads with AI commanders on each side System: 2.6.28-vs2.3.0.36.4-gentoo (which means Gentoo kernel 2.6.28 running some Vservers 2.3.0.36.4) CPU I7 RAM 8 GB System load without arma2server running is something about 0.3-0.
maruk 80 Posted November 4, 2009 UPDATED: Updated Arma II Linux Server 1.04 Public Alpha Build 59962 is available now for download. Most important fixes: - low FPS after mission end - low FPS caused by burning fires
zyklone 1 Posted November 4, 2009 - low FPS after mission end This one is unfortunately not entirely fixed. It's alot better though. Now the server FPS on our server is bouncing between 30 and 50 after mission end. One thread is using 40% cpu constantly with the server in 'Waiting'. Server restart needed to get it back to normal. Once again after a AI vs AI CTI game. Smells like some running scripts are not cleaned up correctly when the mission ends.
thhamm 53 Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) UPDATED: Updated Arma II Linux Server 1.04 Public Alpha Build 59962 is available now for download. Server FPS are really good here now. I'd say even better than the current Windows server. Thanks. :) Hmm. It maybe leaking though. Game is running for nearly 4hrs now, #monitor reports 360MB usage, but resident set is 890MB and rising. Smurf 12 Posted November 4, 2009 Quick question: Any ETA on a final or Beta (more stable) version of the Linux server? Cause the company that provides us a server want to swap Win for Linux, but i have concerns about an alpha server :S
HitmanFF 6 Posted November 4, 2009 Excellent, low FPS caused by burning fires is definitely fixed!

alef 0 Posted November 6, 2009 Being this server built on the beta branch (59962 as now) shouldn't it require the beta modfolder (-mod=beta)? Or it's supposed to run on a plain 1.04.59026?
Master85 1 Posted November 6, 2009 with the plain 1.04.59026 I get such startup errors bj2020 posted above - with the files of the latest beta (and -mod=beta) the startup errors are gone

Rodman 10 Posted November 7, 2009 Yes that what I thought, and I uploaded whole that folder on the server, but there is still that error about missing addons. But I dont have those addons in my folder of installed game, so where I should get them??
Rodman 10 Posted November 7, 2009 For example these ones: Missing addons detected: cacharacters2 chernarus Warning Message: You cannot play/edit this mission; it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted.cacharacters2, chernarus
Deadfast 43 Posted November 7, 2009 In that case you're missing the addons folder.
