    • Yes, my dedi server suffers no problem with Warfare. No crashes/errors what so ever.

    • My dedi server does crash sometimes, but optimising the server spec/settings solves the problem.

Hello to all dedicated server admins.

As far as I know, I have never seen any servers which can run warfare missions without server crash.

My simple question, Is there any dedicated servers out there if any, which can run "Warfare" without crashing?

And if there is any, whats the specs of that server?

I'm talking about any types of warfare missions which are based on original warfare systems developed by BIS. (i.e. Superpowers, Warfare BE, Warfare Proton Mods, Warfare AWP, etc...)

Please post in the poll above and if you've got a server which can run warfare, please post a reply with the server specs too.

Thanks!

BTW, my server specifications are as follows:

CPU: Core2Quad E9550 @2.83GHz

DRAM: DDR2 2GB x2 - total 3.24GB RAM

OS: Windows XP Home

Internet Connection: FTTH 100Mbps both ways

arma2.cfg:

MinBandwidth = 320000;

MaxBandwidth = 10000000000;

MaxMsgSend = 256;

MaxSizeGuaranteed = 1024;

MaxSizeNonguaranteed = 64;

MinErrorToSend = 0.0025;

MaxCustomFileSize = 1600000;

I'm trying to resolve this problem at the moment. See bottom of our page on warfare be, information from Benny (Warfare BE) on a recommended config, perhaps directly related to the MaxSizeNonguaranteed setting?

We ran using the config from Benny all night, before we could manage 2-3 hours with a full server. Tonight I've just left the server and it's been running strong for 5 hours and so far so good. Monitor shows about half memory consumed and FPS averaging at about 20. Will keep posted.

I had a local LAN dedicated server running Warfare BE version .42, @CBA, @JTD, and @VoP up in same game for maybe 16-18 hours straight.. I let AI run it over night and while at work and when I came home it was still going strong. No other human players were connected and no JIP...

The BLUFOR AI commander had built factories around every major installation and all but three squads were stuck at one of them. After some major micro-management by voting myself commander, I was able to de-tangle the blob and re-task them. ALthough, they never reached full combat effectiveness no matter what role I assigned them.. at least the squad leader moved out. I think it may have been funds related but could not figure out how to transfer from my whopping $214,000 and over 33,000 supply .. heh .. the upgrades had been completed as well with only the super weapons left...

I never finished it as I shut down the client I had attached for something else. ALso, I didn't capture any logs really (except for maybe the .rpt, but haven't checked...)...

L8r,

AI have been playing all night (set to persistant). Still seems to be going strong :)

For myself the original crashes were shown in the rpt as out of memory, so the resolution I believe came from MaxSizeNonguaranteed being upped to 512. Bear in mind that I have little - no understanding of what the values actually do :P

PVP ran well with 32 players, we had only one instance of desync during the peaktime. Earlier in the afternoon we had a session using fast time and only 10 players and at nighttime the server FPS dropped to 1-2. Still looking into that issue.

Cool.

I think I will give it a try. We also have the "out of memory" issue so it might be worth a shot....

Thanks

All servers will crash at sometime when playing missions like warfare or that evo coop style map. But if you cant play a full game without a crash then you got server problems. We can play quite a good few long games on xr without a crash. Only crashes when its been runing over 8 to 12hours without restart then we get out of memory message. But we had server last a good 12 hours sometimes sence 1.04 came out

Uhm, well, all Arma servers will crash as it is now. It's in no way acceptable though.

It would be nice if BI worked a bit harder on fixing the server crashes. And I hope everyone running servers send them crash reports when it does happen.

There is really no way the network variables should affect crashing, they only affect bw and cpu use.

Well i started out OK for me but now the problems have come back since updating to warfare 2.044. I'm not convinced thats the issue though, some nights it seems ok.... bizarre.

I have similar problem with my server with WarfareV2_044, it becomes somewhat unresponsive after 1h play. Not seen it crashing yet but perhaps I restart the server to temporary solve the unresponse.

I've been also looking at memory consumption and it raises constantly; when it reaches 1.5Gb is when it becomes unresponsive.

AI seem to have their own mind, ignoring commander commands and revert going to previous auto-selected waypoints. If isn't that then they get confused between two towns at equal distances.

AI also becomes inresponsive, surrounding the town instead of taking it, beside they don't seem to fill up their squads like the previous version. So looks like 2_044 has few issues needing attention.

I know that about 70% of warfare type missions which are played out there are 'Warfare BE'.

But please do remember the thread is about warfare in general, as said in the top post.

So are you saying the memory leaks are a problem with the mission rather than with the dedicated server code? Can you link me? I'll give it a bash and report back :)

Now, I have tried this config and I was simply amazed by how much difference it made.

I can now play warfare BE nonstop for as long as I want. The server fps is fairly stable at around 13-16.

However, I still do expeirence server crashes SOMETIMES so this solution is not quite perfect. (i.e. crashes once out of 4 or 5 games played)

I do suggest every dedi server admins to try this config setting for their server as well, if they are having the 'crash with warfare' problem.

Thanks again, Landselite.

That config was designed and tested by me back in june on our q9550 server with 100mbit so not recommended on servers with less then 10mbit. Mite do some tests some time and try inprove it

There is...the Official mission SuperPowers is the ArmA2 Warfare.

If you want to play it on dedi ..extract it from missions.pbo

Add more slots to the mission.sqm in you need more than 8vs8.

and play..

Yes, the config was indeed crap. But I never knew that it was crap until I was told.

Isn't there supposed to be some kind of example arma.cfg file or shouldn't there be a manual that explains a way to find out the optimum values for an unique server?

I really would like BIS to sort one out if they haven't already made it.

The current situation is where many server admins are experiencing server crashes and they can't even differentiate the problem of if it is a server spec problem, dedicated server bug, admin config problem, or mission bug.

I really felt something had to be done here.:(
