nodunit 397 Posted October 23, 2009 It reminds alot of CE2's terrain tesellation, if something like this can indeed be applied to gaming it could enter it into a new revolution of visual asthetics never thought possible before. Of course you still require a DX11 card to run this and then there is the big "if the developer includes..".. It would be nice to see BIS use this, hell it would be nice to see MANY games with such an amazing feature.
Shadow NX 1 Posted October 23, 2009 Wasnt that a feature that was already introduced many many years ago? So far it didnt seem to been used much, hope that changes though
Student Pilot 0 Posted October 23, 2009 If there are no lods, does that mean the software automatically chooses how to change the polygons, or can you create a "basic" model and a "detailed" model and the engine fills in the rest? I could see certain problems where the engine's choice of optimization creates ugly-looking structures. If they can keep that to a minimum then this is a really awesome concept. That demo was very impressive. -Student Pilot
Dwarden 1125 Posted October 23, 2009 DX11 uniqine benchmark http://unigine.com/press-releases/091022-heaven_benchmark/ looks like Unigine evolved quite rapidly in past two years ...
EricM 0 Posted October 23, 2009 That would really help with the ground and building details, but it wouldn't do much for the vegetation lod switching, which is IMHO one of the biggest visible drawback of the current engine. BIS stayed with DX9 because DX10 was Vista Only and didn't offer substantial improvement. DX11 seems to be a real step up this time.
Maddmatt 1 Posted October 23, 2009 ATI cars have supported some kind of Tessellation for years (Truform), since DX8 maybe. Xbox 360 supports it too. But it's hardly used, I guess because only ATI supports it. Should have become standard with DX9, but I guess they had to hold it back so that they would have something cool to advertise as a new feature in a later DX  I guess the old Truform isn't as good though. There's a good DX11 video showing Dirt 2 using DX11, making some good use of tessellation especially with the crowd and water. HD: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/uk-directx-dirt-2/58055 SD: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/uk-directx-dirt-2/58054 I recommend you watch the HD version if you can to get a good look at the graphics. The GPU in the 360 is an ATI, it's the PS3 that uses an NVIDIA GPU. Oh, and considering what we see with DR, I wouldn't trust CM on the Dirt2 footage lol.
