BLSmith2112 0 Posted October 19, 2009 About 2 months ago, I sadly felt that Arma2 has been hijacked by COOP missions. Are Domination/Evolution the only popular populated servers still? All I remember from two months ago: 1-2 AAS servers, and only one Warfare server that was stable and based in the US. Is this how it is still? If so I'm sorry to say my 6 years playing BIS's games are over... By popular, I mean 5-10 consistent servers with 10-60 players...
-DirTyDeeDs--Ziggy- 0 Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) Can I assume this is the same Victor I remember who associated and cooperated with Karrilion? HI ! if it is.. More Warfare servers are present in the browser, as well as a CTF league has begun with over 20 clans registered. The Landscape is different, but then again, why not load up Arma2 and look into the browser yourself. or here, Victor. http://arma2.swec.se/server/list Edited October 19, 2009 by [DirTyDeeDs]-Ziggy-

galzohar 31 Posted October 20, 2009 The reason those missions dominate the public servers is that they work no matter how you play them - be a total nub that dies every 2 seconds and or an expert that piles up bodies of AI, the mission will work about as well. Missions that actually require skill, teamwork and strategy don't work when you play with people that don't communicate and have no clue how the game works, and thus are difficult to enjoy on public servers. There are a couple servers that run different missions in a more moderated fashion, but they usually don't play 24/7, so you'd have to look for their active days/hours, and look for which ones play the kind of missions you like (be it Zeus, Charlie Foxtrot, SimHQ or even join a clan/squad/unit that suits what you're looking for). Organized gameplay, regardless of coop/pvp, is something you probably won't find on a public server, as people who care about teamwork have usually given up on those servers long ago, and even if they didn't, those mission don't require any teamwork or skill (at least not the domination/evolution-type servers). BLSmith2112 0 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) -Ziggy-;1467792']Can I assume this is the same Victor I remember who associated and cooperated with Karrilion?HI ! if it is.. Yeap! Hi! Follow my sig to http://cfarma2.com/forums/ for weekly large Army vs Army battles. Thats just it. I don't want to "plan" or "look forward" to battles. I want to turn the game on and just play for the hour before work. Thanks for the link. Though this just sealed the deal for me for at least another 2 months. This is turning into an Arma1 where I stopped for 6 months... (Currently highest populated servers) Co-Ops: 19 -Evolution 3 -Domination 12 -Other 4 CTI: 6 CTF: 1 TEAM: 1 I have no idea why killing brainless bots is so appealing to everyone. Personally I consider Warfare just a big coop mission with a few players filling in the 15-30 AI standing between them and their human opponent. This is just sad... see yall in 2 months... galzohar 31 Posted October 20, 2009 This is probably not going to change, as those game modes are the only ones that are playable on a public server that doesn't have a strict admin running it (which is most of them).
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted October 22, 2009 I have no idea why killing brainless bots is so appealing to everyone. Well, I don't know about everyone, I can just speak for myself/ourselves: We prefer coop because we're getting old'n'slow :p. We don't stand a chance against the 16 yo uberplayers of today who can do a 180° headshot from 500m in 0.1 second. The "brainless bots" we can adjust the skill of to make the game enjoyable. Being used to only wipe the battlefloot with, quickly became old. If a mission has too many enemies, we lower the skill, and vice versa. BIS games are the only games (that I know of, again, I'm probably too old to be current on the game front) that support coop modes on larger scales. While all other shooters have very decent PvP/TvT modes, and a good playerbase (i.e. BF2 PR). Is it really THAT hard to understand why coop is a popular game mode? Why is Domination popular? * Easy to learn. Perfect for newbies to learn the (wrong parts of the) game. It's straight into the action, which most seem to want (which is unfortunate). * Only coop game in a persistant dynamic world. There are NO good alternatives to provide better gameplay or that enforce better teamwork. It is what it is, and there are no good alternatives (yet). * You can do side missions solo, if there is not other players there. You don't have to wait for a pilot to log in. SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted October 22, 2009 I would rather deal with "brainless bots" cheating against me over idiots who ruin mp games.
-DirTyDeeDs--Ziggy- 0 Posted October 22, 2009 Victor, I understand your frustration about the game modes being played. If you want to, there are servers out there playing very good PvP missions, AAS Hold as an example. BMF-team PvP AAS (advance and secure) is one of them. It is admined by adults, but is populated mostly in the evenings (EST) and is US based.
