International Patch (read more...)

Recommended Posts

I'm sick of playing in German just because I bought the German version. The other languages are there, yet I just can't use them without mods. Why?

There was no problem like this in ArmA1, why 'solidify' the entire system so you can only use the language associated with your CD Key (I've reinstalled with an English hard copy and my key, no dice.)

regards

Already suggested numerous times.

You shouldn't have supported the German publisher by buying it there. (with all respect) Thanks to people like you doing this, we may even get a similar situation at a future BI game, because you paid them for it.

I think BI or the publisher may have signed some kind of contract that prohibits other languages than German for that version.

And who are the ones supporting the mentioned greedy publishers if not the ones who brought the game in German, but expected it to be in English after a while...

Why would you be asking BIS to solve YOUR problem, for buying a game in a language you don't speak or you don't want to play in?

Well, we had the exact same situation with ArmA 1. The German version was released early, was released by the same publisher as ArmA 2 and was locked into German language in the beginning. But after a while one of the official patches opened up the language options, and we could choose the language in the options menu. So I believe it is valid to ask BIS for a solution, since they provided one for ArmA 1 as well.

uhm, I'm from Switzerland and my mother tongue is german. But yeah, I'd be more comfortable if my game would be in english, especially for mission-making and scripting. That said, how am I supposed - for example - to check if I did anything wrong with any of my stringtable.xml files? Does it even work? I can't check it. Or how can I refer to ingame-objects if I only know the german name of it (most probably badly translated anyway) and the whole forum speaks english?

And all this, only because there are multiple publishers, `fighting` each other for sales/market shares over the same friggin game. The german publisher could release early, but had the restriction to lock any language other than german, to not hurt the other publishers too bad, or whatever... I mean, in the end, it's we german user's who have to suffer, because we got a restricted game. Or do you suggest that I should have waited for an imported version only to play the game in english?

No, really, this situation is far from fortunate. It's bullcrap for no good reason (other than maybe that BIS isn't capable of finding one single strong publisher anymore... or they just aren't good at negotiations, whatever..).

I wonder why BIS even agrees to something like that in the first place. Is it that hard to find a good publisher? (I have no idea how those BIS vs. Publisher games/power struggles(?) are played out...)
