Relemar 10 Posted September 19, 2009 will there be a noticable difference in game if I overclock from 3ghz to 3.2 GHz? im currently at 3ghz, but can push it a lil further.
galzohar 31 Posted September 19, 2009 I wouldn't expect much from a <10% increase in clock speed, but anything helps a little I guess ;)
Relemar 10 Posted September 19, 2009 ok thanks, so it's not worth the risk? i mean, am I gonna gain 20 fps. if so, i'll take that risk right now. if nothings gonna change, no point risking it really :P
bluesteel 0 Posted September 19, 2009 Overclocking from 3.0GHz to 3.2GHz increases your CPU speed by 6.7%. If your CPU is your performance bottleneck and not your graphics card, you will gain 6.7% fps. So if you have 30fps right now, you would get 32fps after the overclock. If you had 60fps, you would get 64fps. But keep in mind that this only applies if your graphics card is not slowing you down already, in that case increasing CPU speed will not have much effect at all. -DirTyDeeDs--Ziggy- 0 Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) excellent analysis! i <3 numbers  by your math, 2.8 - 3.8 is 33% so 30fps is 40?! Edited September 19, 2009 by [DirTyDeeDs]-Ziggy-

galzohar 31 Posted September 19, 2009 My guess would be that your GPU is the real bottleneck here. As for "worth the risk" I can't say much because I don't know the risk, but can definitely say you won't see anything near a 20 fps increase.
