2001 academy awards

actually, those actors are also a fraction of another bunch of actors. there are a lot of ppl who are distinctably 'actors' but does not get fame and fortune like those who stood there last night.

moreover, those ppl have short career. Marissa Tomei won Oscars for 'My cousin vinnie(?)' in early 1990s but she has not been up to par since.

so they make shit load of money, but chance of that happening is slim(1 out of millions if you ask me), and continuing is also a hard thing.

honest hard working ppl might be offended, but those ppl who act read scripts over and over, try to find out the best way to reproduce appropriate acting.

and the job is horribly repetitive. for one scene that is about 5 minutes long, you have to act 5 hrs.(no kidding)

uh-oh

Don't say American...

This happens in basically every country in the world.

Only thing is, the americans are the best to advertise their piece of the proverbial perverted pie.

I happen to be in a position where I have to listen to a lot of spoiled musicians bitch about how hard their job is, and that makes me just a sick. Actors are ridiculously overpayed, as are professionel sportsmen and popmusic idols.

Ralph, you can't be serious...repetitive?  Tell that to the factory worker at any automobile manufacturer who stands in the same place on the assembly line...10 hours a day, 50 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, for 40 years.  That actor "slaving" away for 5 hours to do a 5 minute scene just earned that man's yearly salary or better in that time frame.  There's a tear in my beer for those "actors" in their air conditioned trailers earning millions per movie.

My overall point is what nordin dk eludes to...the out of control status and compensation for entertainers whether it be sports, acting, singing, whatever.  Bread and circuses my friends.  confused.gif

I'll get off my soap box now. smile.gif

I didn't realise it would be that offensive, but ok, fair enough.

Actually now that I think about it, it is very offensive.

But also educating to people who have a certain mindset, agreed?

the reason why those entertainers earn so much is becuase they have a lot of consumers that are willing to pay to see them.(this is another aspect)

for example, Brad Pitt. I really don't know why he's called sexy. I don't get sexy feelings when I see him.wait... that explains something..i'm a guy...duh...but when Guy Richie(Mr. Madonna) was making 'snatch', here's what happened.

Guy Richie, looking for some ppl so that he can shoot scene with Brad Pitt and the guy in a ring, put up an ad on British radio saying;'We are looking for some healthy, well-built individuals who are willing to box in a movie. If you are interested, please show up at XXXX place on XXXX day.'

unfortunately, no ppl showed up.

so Guy Richie sends out another ad, this time;

'We are looking for some healthy, well-built individuals who are willing to box in a movie with Brad Pitt. If you are interested, please show up at YYYY place on YYYY day.'

result:

3000 screaming girls, no guys tounge.gif

this story illustrates such high compensation that actors get. there are 10 million ppl who would shell US$5 for short hours of film. that translates into 50 million bucks. from there, you can imagine that these ppl get about 1 million or so.(actually more).

each consumer spent only 5 dollars, but there were soooo many of them that they get paid such hugh amount. these actors are the ones who could bring shit load of revenues for film makers. it's worth every penny to spend on the actors. actors have this big grasp on market

on the other hand, joe nobody doesn't. joe can make same thing as Brad Pitt do, but his value(judged by amount of consumers willing to spend on joe's work) is far lower than that of brad pitt. so that's the reason why these ppl get paid so much. if you hate my theory, u r a commie!!! tounge.gif

I'll throw my two cents in..

I dont think the awards to Halle or Denzel were even remotely racial in nature.

Though I have to say that Randy Neuman winning best song was..well..pity. It wasnt nearly as good a song as many of the others he's been nominated for, and Sting or Enya wrote far better songs.

I read a few Lord of the Rings forums, and heavens, are THOSE some people that need to get lives. FotR was a great movie, and probably my favourite film last year, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. And obviously the voting members of AMPAS prefered Beautiful Mind. As I like to say, judge the worth of a movie on how much it's watched and loved in ten years. I am willing to bet that in 10 years, no one will remember Beautiful Mind.

I agree Halle Berry deserved an Oscar, but I'd much prefer Nicole Kidman getting it (not just for MR but for the Others)

But Denzel Washington didn't deserve shit! Sean Penn was much better actor

From what I've seen of the two, I have to agree with you.

"She's so lovely" is an example.

I think LOTR is better off without the best film award.

I some years time, people will look back at the Oscars with some contempt I think.

And probably all the BIG things winning at that time would be: Roberts and Bodils, if u know what i mean, nordin

Probably a safe move there. The Academy has always been kind of wary of big commercial hits. Plus the nature of the trilogy could also cause problems in the future. Suppose LOTR had swept the boards this year and then we found 'Two Towers' was even better.

I think Jackson may yet pick up his best film / director Oscar.

Sometimes it takes 10 hours to sing a 3 minute song on a tape. And I can tell you it's much more fun than working in a factory. tounge.gif

I disagree, brad pitt had to get his start somewhere. He just another pretty face in hollywood that got a job because of his looks.

edit--let me add.If women think your pretty, and probably would see a movie he's in they will put him in it.When last time you see someone that is a big actor/actress that is ugly ? I can only think of one, John wayne. smile.gif
