Catchy 0 Posted September 1, 2009 Yup, yet another dog of war thread. Bummer huh? My problem is: I have come to the point after I have captured the man in the blue training suit "valinayr" or something at the iceland, traveled the civil chopper, delivered him, getting ambushed, killed the speznaz and after that getting told to head back to base. (Getting to that point was pain in the ass though. Getting one shotted after the cutscene, nearby destroyed cars blowing up my team after cutscene, stupid AI running to check the corpse in the midle of the fighting etc) Anyway, I'm told to head back to base and when I do that nothing happens. Maybe I should have gotten a task or something (New Task: Get back to base) maybe that would trigger something to happen ? what do I do next? what should happen? Would have been awsome if the game could give some hints from time to time... Investigating for hours isnt that much fun in my opinion.
jeffroland 10 Posted September 1, 2009 Read on... It's probably not very intuitive but if you look at your task list there is one remaining task (besides taking over towns), and that is to find and eliminate the main Chedaki base. Good Luck.
LukeB 10 Posted September 2, 2009 I had exactly the same problem when I got back to the main base. I got there and nothing happens. I checked the Task list and set off trying to find the enemy base. HOWEVER, although I left the rest of Razor team in a safe place (in the nearby forest so they didn't get run over and killed) and told them to stay put and hold fire, while I was away, they still kept getting killed? I soon found that I couldn't go any further and had to start again for the 5th or 6th time. So if I can's take my team with me because they ALWAYS get killed and I can't leave them in a safe place because the AI eventually kills them anyway, how is one suppose to finish the mission? I've decided that this is going to be my last attempt at this mission before a patch comes out to hopefully fix some of the bugs in this mission. I wouldn't mind restarting so much but if I get killed, I am finding that it takes about 2 minutes to revert to the last save. I just cannot understand why it takes so long to reload. And what is the "Loading..." and then "Receiving..." all about? I have a modern and fast PC (Core2 Duo Quad core) 4 GBytes high speed RAM, GTX260 OC, etc, etc and so it should be lightning fast to reload??? It just spoils the flow of the mission. Whats going on here BI? Can we please hear something from you about some of these issues and when we can expect the next pacth? It would be great if BI could post some brief but regular updates we could read on what is happening to fix the bugs and issues with this game. I would like to go further with this game but my experience so far has left me with little confidance that other parts of the game engine would work well enough to make investing more time in it worth while. I hope this changes in the future otherwise this game will soon die a natural death with me and BI won't get any more of my $$$$. Say something BI! :( Cheers, Luke. jeffroland 10 Posted September 2, 2009 Oops, sorry. I forgot to mention this.. When you get ambushed by the spetznatz at the bridge you will need to kill them all in order to finish the "deal with the russians" task. I kept getting killed by them so I went all the way back to base(was able to order my marine chopper to give me a lift), got a bmp and went back to the bridge to kill the bastards. ---------- Post added at 12:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:54 AM ---------- I checked the Task list and set off trying to find the enemy base. If you're searching for the main base I advise keeping your team in a bmp or other armored vehicle, bring along as many marine infantry and armor as possible, and clear out the towns one by one. I hope you haven't reverted 5 or 6 times!!! There is no need for that. If you've been doing manual saves throughout DoW you can load them by deleting the last autosave or last manual save, whichever is most recent. This way you can go back to a previous save point without having to revert to the beginning of DoW.
Catchy 0 Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) Ah ok I know where the base is. Guess Ill buy myself a squad of T72s and start blowing things up.. I did complete the task "deal with the russians" but all im saying it was a pain in ass to complete it due to all the stuff that happend (Blown up cars that keeps blowing up which is injuring my team, AI investigating body in the middle of the fighting and getting one shotted after cut scene etc). Edited September 2, 2009 by Catchy
jeffroland 10 Posted September 2, 2009 Yes it is a pain. I drove up to the bridge in a truck and the cutscene began automatically. Me and the rest of Razor were automatically taken out of the truck but the rest of the squad that I had purchased was left in it. After the cutscene the men cannot disembark for anything. I finally gave up and disbanded them. Nice bug.
maturin 12 Posted September 2, 2009 So how are you supposed to know where the Chedaki base is if there are no more conversations after this point? And while High Command troops know to demolish all the buildings?
jeffroland 10 Posted September 3, 2009 So how are you supposed to know where the Chedaki base is if there are no more conversations after this point? And while High Command troops know to demolish all the buildings? In short, you're not supposed to know where it is. It's part of the task to find it, otherwise they would flat out tell you were it was. The basic mission in DoW is to take back the entire country from the Chedaki, town by town. You will find the base eventually.
Kramxel 10 Posted September 3, 2009 Can anyone explain to me all the twists and turns of the "Deal with the russians" assignment? This is what I did: Found Lopotev and took him to the ruskies... killed some spetnatz and now after doing everything else, it tells me to talk to Marny.... but he won't say anything. I already took EVERY Chedakhi town, already destroyed the main camp, and I'm stuck... what am I supposed to do.... already did the Prizrak debug console thingy as someone suggested... and after more than 11h real mission time.... I'm stuck!!!

All I can say is that I did the Russian mission before destroying the last Chedaki base. This seemed the logical way to do it. After destroying the base I don't think I even had to go back to my base to talk to Marney; it just went to the cutscene or next mission- I can't quite remember. There was no one checking the bodies... I killed 5 or 6 guys and then went on my way.... I'm gonna kill someone!!!! GRRRRR!!!!! I just feel like screaming!!!! ---------- Post added at 09:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:19 AM ---------- My game clock reads 03:20.... So many hours WASTED in this mission.... almost a week in real time... Went back to the ambush site to see if I could find something to explain how that happened... and I remembered that as soon as the cutscene ends and you have the spetsnaz shooting at you, 3 dead bodies pop up.... from russian soldiers... Also confirmed (setting terrain detail to very low) that I killed 5 spetsnaz... Had to reload several times because someone from Razor kept getting killed... I also got screwed, because at the time I made the delivery my Razor teammates were safely stashed away, across the map in a T-72.... and where teleported to me... I was accompanied by 2 AT soldiers that went AWOL... probably kidnapped by aliens... eventually had to disband them... I also was left with NO means of transportation... thank god I had the MH-60 from the landing force... and didn't have to hike all the way to HQ. Basically I had to eat a sandwich of shit, and in the end it didn't matter because the quest is screwed... ---------- Post added at 10:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:01 AM ---------- Loaded the mission in the editor... just found out what's wrong: Missed a Spetsnaz scout... don't know why... or even if he was there... but I didn't kill him... killed the other 5... but not the Scout... I bet they got bored:p
LukeB 10 Posted September 4, 2009 Can someone please tell me how to mark sections as Spoilers? There is probably a bit too much information in the section below so please don't read if you don't want to know how I'm tackling some of this mission. The following section may include some Spoilers I did revert back to the start of DOW again (restart number 6 I think) and took command. Put my team in the nearby forest and told them to stay put in a prone position (at least if they decide to go somewhere it will take them a long time) and hold fire. Then I commanded the main group to take each village in turn while I crawled around picking off as many enemy as I can to help. Working quite well so far. I'm looking for the enemy base but how do I know if I've found it? I'm now in a town crawling with enemy. I call it "The Killing Fields" because so far I've killed 23 enemy infantry, destroyed 2 enemy BDRMs (satchel bombs are great) and 5 UAZds and 8 enemy Salvage and Supply trucks one of which I've kept and hidden for a supply of ammo for my sniper rifle. I haven't managed to take this town yet because there seems to be an infinite number of enemy available. I use a "random" pattern of movement that the AI hasn't been able to work out, yet. I have now commanded my force to come and help take this town but it will take some time for them to arrive. If it wasn't for the Tanks I could probably do it on my own but the Tanks don't seen to want to stay still long enough for me to crawl up and put a satchel bomb under them. Jolly unsporting of them I think. I decided to set myself the task to find and destroy the enemy base as the first task of the mission. The reason I did it this was this time, is that as in my previous plays when I left this as the last task, reverting to a saved point when I got wounded or killed took up to 2 or more minutes. It seems to take longer as the mission progesses. At the moment it takes around 30 to 40 seconds to revert. Interesting how the rest of Razor team just can't wait for me to get bumped off so that they can take over. They just start giving commands as if thay are in the thick of the battle instead of being many kilometres away in the forest I put them in for safe keeping. If I can manage to find and destroy the enemy base, I should be able to finish the mission this time as I already now how to complete all the other tasks the this mission as for. If this town doesn't have the enemy base then I'll just keep looking until I find it. I'm assuming something will tell me when I eventually find it??? Cheers, Luke. Kramxel 10 Posted September 4, 2009 I'm still hoping for a miracle... I can't believe my mission is trashed..... P.S: LukeB "Go Advanced" and there's a tool in the bar called "SPOILERS"... or use [/ SPOILER] without the space.
LukeB 10 Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks Kramxel. I'm almost sure I've found the enemy base this time. They have a HQ and Barracks and used to have lots of soldiers and other gear :) Now there are only 2 tanks left and I'm trapped in the main strong point where I captured the town, with the two tanks outside. There were three tanks but I blasted one with a Howitzer I found at one of this town's strong points near by. I found if I didn't capture the strong point (just killed the guys maning the guns) I could use the heavy guns that were there. Once I captured the strong point, the guns would disappear??? I don't understand the point of this "feature"??? Another interesting thing. If I blasted the Barracks and HQ complex, it just rebuilds itself. Magic? I have asked for help but that will take a while to arrive. I think I'm starting to like this mission. It will be a great one to play again when they iron out all the bugs. For now I'll be glad when it's finished. I hope something happens to tell me when that is. Cheers, Luke.
Kramxel 10 Posted September 4, 2009 I'm having the most fantastic of experiences replaying DoW! What if I said I did the first half of the mission in less than 30 min? I already conquered Chernogorsk and own half the map!!! This is what I did: Used a gang approach! Ganged up everyone from town to town... as soon as the Chedakhi made an incursion, I took their farthest town... as to cut of their troops from suplies... and it worked like a charm! I sent the gang up North and headed myself to the south aboard a BMP-2. They were completely overhauled!!!

It's probably not very intuitive but if you look at your task list there is one remaining task (besides taking over towns), and that is to find and eliminate the main Chedaki base. Good Luck. Yep can confirim this First take out the town where enemies is sending troops to the mainbase. Doing the POW tasks(get the russian pow, capture lapotev) and then take out the chedaki base completes the mission. I suggest going in a BMP to the iceland to get Lapotev. By that time you should have enough money to buy 4xT72s to conquer the chedaki main base. I did all this before it got dark. Personally i think taking over the towns tasks is very missleading and confusing.
Kramxel 10 Posted September 6, 2009 I just noticed in my 2nd run, that you can actually get info on the map as to the town strength value... Besides the town name there are some numbers.... the first one (10-30) indicates the strength of the town... the others between brackets indicate the amount of units present (that are from the town itself). FlankerDFR 10 Posted September 6, 2009 Oh really? How do you get that info from the map? TY!
