mp82 0 Posted March 24, 2002 pleeze no answer with "go get satchels soundpack". I have experienced serious trouble with my pc/sound system even after removing it.
advocatexxx 0 Posted March 24, 2002 Well I have been having troubles with sound since 1.20. I have SB Live (like 90% of gamers) and my sound starts to degrade on vehicles/some Choppers/sometimes on airplanes too. It seems to me that anytime the sound is being "pitched", it starts to crack soon thereafter. I have to hit Esc to go to the menu screen, and then hit Esc again to go back to the game. This seems to fix the problem, but it's still very annoying. I also think many weapons sound dull, and don't have a sense of atmosphere. That's why I imported almost all weapon/tank sounds from Ghost Recon and replaced them in Flashpoint. I mean the original M-16 sounds like someone tapping on the wood. Oh well, I never downloaded those Satchel's sounds, as I'm the type of guy who isn't happy unless it's something I've done myself. : )

Placebo 29 Posted March 24, 2002 I voted "The sounds are just fine" by reason of the fact Satchel's addon works great for me

SpaceAlex 0 Posted March 24, 2002 I voted for "The sounds are just fine" because i think they're fine.
shadow 6 Posted March 24, 2002 I voted for "official sound upgrade" because I like to keep my OFP clean of unofficial addons and I want a few sounds changed (not all of them thou)
John C Flett 0 Posted March 24, 2002 Satchel has done great work to improve on one of the few weak areas of OFP but it isn't without problems. All credit for the work he has done. However an official addon to ensure compatability would be a great idea. Mayby it might also include some of the missing speech for newer vehicles.

Assault (CAN) 1 Posted March 24, 2002 Avon, I think the desert heat has gotten to your head over the years I think that there should be an 'official' sound addon because the original sounds are quite crappy. Like others have said, it will ensure compatability in the community because it will be better for MP games. Maybe BIS should hire Satchel? Tyler
WTFonslaught 0 Posted March 24, 2002 I would hope that if they include an official sound pak upgrade, that it is based on some of the great stuff in the satchels dynamic range addon..
Rageman 0 Posted March 24, 2002 What we need is satchels sound mod but without the tinkering of the config.bin file, ie replace the current sound pbo with the a replacement.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted March 25, 2002 would an official sound pack be THAT painful? I think its a damn good idea. Im sure that while working on VBS 1 they have had an opportunity to work with US and Aussie military and record some really kick ass sounds... maybe they could share the wealth? Diniter 0 Posted March 25, 2002 Yes, I think there should be a sound pack addition. By God how is it taking so long for the next patch? I mean the last one was hardly anything . Where's the code?

Adding vocabulary to do away with reports like 'All, board.... 200m', 'target ...' when talking about one of the vehicles that came in addons. How hard could it be to get the actors back to record a few more words?

DaCrytter 0 Posted March 25, 2002 I think there should definitely be a sound patch. I was disappointed wen I first fired the M16 in the demo. This was an assault rifle. I don't know what it really sounds like, but I expected it to roar when I pulled the trigger. Instead, what I heard was 'crack!'. The AK74 is a little better, but still sounds like an automatic spud-gun on steroids.
Nagual 0 Posted March 25, 2002 I dont think there is a need for an official sound addon, i remember being amazed at the sound of the game when i first played it, and continued to play it. But satchels sounds do sound better in general, and add to the atmosphere of playing in very good ways. Such as tank shells flying through the air, and even the sound of equipment on your soldiers and squad members. Even things like the sound of other soldiers hitting the dirt around you add to the immersion. A gunshot in the distance is a resounding crack, breaking the silence. Bullet richocet sounds add to the effect of being pinned or suppressed in a really good way. I dont use satchels sound at the moment, but am going to use pitvipers config soon, for the sake of enjoying those tasty sounds again. I would love to see a semi-official version of satchels sound, done in a way it could be updated with each patch, so it would have the "BIS stamp of approval" for multiplayer and the like. So i would prefer sound from satchel and Resistance from BIS.
mp82 0 Posted March 25, 2002 Have you ever heard a gunshot outdoor? If you have then you would surely not say that. All weapon sounds are shit. The only sound in this game that is nice is the helicopter engine.
Nagual 0 Posted March 25, 2002 yes I have heard a guns shooting outdoors, i was saying that one of my first impressions of the game was that the sound was amazing, I did not say realistic.
theavonlady 2 Posted March 25, 2002 OFP's weapons sounds were the only major thing I was critical of, way back when the original demo came out. I remember people hoping then that the sounds would be better once the retail version would come out.
mp82 0 Posted March 25, 2002 just go compare any of the rifle/machine guns sounds with real sounds (just watched a CNN report from Afghanistan). I have seen a helicopter machine gun firing and when I go play flashpoint it sounds like a gay popgun
