randir14 10 Posted August 31, 2009 What are some PvP tactics you use? There are some really good players I see all the time who are constantly at the top of the scoreboard. My main problem is spotting people in heavy vegetation. Well I'll start; how annoying is it to crouch behind cover to scan the horizon only to get capped in the head? Sniper bait With this trick you can scan the horizon while ducking safely behind cover. Go into third person mode and aim straight at the ground. Now hold alt and move your mouse around, you'll be able to see all around without exposing yourself. It's better than going prone since you can pop up quickly to fire at someone. Sniper bait no longer

I don't have pictures at hand, but basically, you crouch, press your "walk" key to be sure you won't run back standing when pressing forward, press the "Alt" key and keep it pressed, then raise your point of view again with the mouse. This will make your character only turn his head, and not raise the rest of his body
Inkompetent 0 Posted August 31, 2009 Well, quite simply I prefer flanking, concealment and lots of movement. I don't mind hiking around through a forest, or just draw fire. A dude on the flank that moves and shoots constantly can be a great benefit to the team even without killing anything. I guess my specialty is... to try to make the enemy never feel safe. Snipe people at 800m with a PKM machinegun and stuff like that. The slower the enemy moves, the more time and room your team has to maneuver.
galzohar 31 Posted August 31, 2009 I usually get annoyed pretty quickly when playing on PvP servers that ahve 3rd person enabled, so don't really care *too much* about these tricks. And I'd also call them tricks, not tactics. As for actual tactics, every mission is fundamentally different, especially in PvP.
Apocal 10 Posted August 31, 2009 Any kind of cappable objective I put satchels on. Occassionally TK, but they apparently weren't stopping the enemy so...

And it's not as "cheaty" as mine, it just makes your guy crouch lower which could be done in real life. It will be useful for moving between low cover at a greater speed than crawling. chefd261 0 Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) A few tactics I can think of off the top of my head ( And I Do Agree it depends on the map ) 1 Think about joining a good realism unit 7/10 times what you learn is for the most part overkill when you engage AI (note Not Useless but just Overkill) in a tactical manner ,but 9/10 times will work very well against Humans AI simply don't and can't react like humans. 2 walls can be your friends if you have air above you it is very hard for most people to see small objects floating wall's (have some friends in the 3ID that may disagree). 3 speed is not always life on the ground but planting yourself will always result in planting yourself if you overstay your welcome.know when to move and when not to move. 4 when working with a team ALWAYS TRY TO GET ON COMM'S even Great players can become better when communication is present.(in a team setting) 5 Know thy map try to learn points on (insert map name here) and read about land nav in case no GPS is present and no marker is seen (go land Nav),Also important is a familiarity with the mission checking notes constantly or worse not having any is never a recipe for success when those around you may be Master Chef's when it come's to the mission,Steakslim has taught me this enough on non PvP missions. 6 Get comfy with all the guns you can.I cant count the number of time's I have been stuck with an DMR which I am less than perfect with in vanilla ArmA 2 (Although with GMJ SA and 31st Rets I am a force to be reckoned with.) 7 Client side mod's can be your friend but PLEASE Don't use them for unfair advantage In my opinion Sound mod's are OK most of the time helps immersion, ret's same but shy away from view distance for PvP (yes I know some of you may be saying that IVD mod does not work with PvP but there are ways around that and they wont be discussed here), some times missions have setviewdistance 900 for a reason. Well all sorry for my windy post but had a few mike's to kill. Cheer's all ChefD www.jsoc-gamer.org Edited September 2, 2009 by chefd261 error
