Sisko 10 Posted August 29, 2009 Hey guys, I've been playing Arma 2 and it has been a bit stuttery lately. I'm putting it more down to the CPU than my grahphics card or memory. I have a Nvidia BFG 8800GTX 768MB overclocked graphics card and 8GB of memory. My CPU on the other hand is the only component that hasn't been changed out. Its a Core 2 Duo 6400 running at 2.13GHZ. I'm thinking of perhaps jumping up to a 3GHZ Quad Core CPU, does anyone think that will make much of a difference?? Considering the CPU i'm running at the moment.... :) Cheers for any input guys
kozzy420 21 Posted August 29, 2009 Considering that ARMA2 is CPU intensive, that new CPU would make a big difference imo.
Jimmy the Saint 10 Posted August 29, 2009 Default graphic settings are mainly influenced by the CPU. The sliders in this menu can be put up to about 2/3 of their total amount when using a middle of the range CPU. I have a Intel Core 2Duo E6700 @ 2,66Ghz with 2GB ram and the game runs at 25 to 30fps just fine. However, advanced graphic settings are mostly influenced by the graphic card memory size and GPU performance. Perhaps you won't get much of an advantage from a quad core CPU yet (talking of Arma 2 here), even though it's mentioned in the recommended system list. I believe ArmA 2 is just CPU speed hungry. sle 0 Posted August 29, 2009 Overclock it if your motherboard allows. It's hard to get started in clocking, but once you know how it works, and what to adjust, you'll never look back. You should be able to push that one to 2.8 or so Ghz.
no use for a name 0 Posted August 29, 2009 I'm OC'ing my 6400 to over 3GHz and it seems to have helped a lot. You might try it and if it doesn't give the performance you expected (or you're not comfortable with OCing) then maybe pick a new cpu
