Arma 2 Weather System

Recommended Posts

This thread is for all to discuss different settings in the editor for the weather, time of day, year, etc.

for example;

-What are your best settings for night time where you can see without NVG

-How to achieve a certain sky look, sunset, sunrise, post apocalyptic, etc.

-Best fog settings, without making things like buildings and tress pop in

-Different effects from changing the months and year, does it change anything?

Im currently trying to get a red sky but cant seem to find the right settings, so if you have any idea on how to do this please post the settings.

Try to change around the months and time of day (sunrise and sunset). I know the months are realistic, for example the sun sets earlier in the winter. It also seems to be easier to see at night during winter months if you have a clear sky. The stars and planets change too depending on the time of year. Here's something cool I found, an orange moon:

nice results, i have some screens i'll post later on with some of my results, i actually got a really cool setting where the sky is purple and has a small amount of fog, now if only there was a mod where it actually snowed in the winter months and there were heat waves and or effects in the summer, that would be awesome.

There's a snow mod out there somewhere

Getting that right atmosphere is very important to me. It does seem that OFP DR will take the trophy on this issue though (unfortunately?). Arma2 actually leaves a lot to be desired, but I've managed to get some 'colored lighting effects' (warmen or coolen the colors a little) simply using a post processing effect. A reddish sky can't be made without applying post processing effects.

For me there is no 'perfect' settings or conditions set in the editor. Missions vary greatly wrt what conditions you want. Want flatter light? Increase the cloud cover. Want more or less moonlight? Change the date (years matter too, at least in Arma1). Want available moonlight to vary? Make a weather script.

Im currently trying to get a red sky but cant seem to find the right settings, so if you have any idea on how to do this please post the settings.

1. For nighttime set the weather to perfectly clear skies and the date to the 10th. If you want the moon in a certain place it all depends on the month and time, but give it a shot.

2. Depends on what sky/sunset/sunrise you want. I'm particularly fond of 7:50 in August with relatively clear skies (although it can be upped a bit to make more clouds, just not too high to block out the sun and such).

3. I never really mess with fog too much, so I couldn't tell you. I do like having fog after (or even light fog during a storm) a storm though, looks fantastic.

4. The months definitely have an effect. It changes what time sunrise and sunset are (6pm in December is dark, while 6pm in July is light). I don't think the year makes a difference, but don't quote me on that.

Here's some screens with the times to give you rough idea of the effect of dates and times.

July 10th, 2am

August 10th, 8pm

August 10, 7:50pm with some storms and fog

August 10th, 7:50pm

August 10th, 4:50am

Towards dusk and dawn 5 minutes changes the look a LOT.

EDIT: This was done on mostly high settings, so I'm not sure if lower settings would be change the look or not.

Sorry if i am in the wrong topic.

I have an issue with a multiplayer coop mission i am creating: I set a time of day in the editor, 4:00 pm for instance, and when i pack the mission files and test the mission on a server i host, the time of day has changed to pitchblack night.

Would you know what is the problem?

No need for a mod, set the date to December or something, weather slider to the left and put down the Weather Effects module. Snow!
