Ordering AI to area fire?

Recommended Posts

Is there any way to do this? (I don't think there is, but I thought I'd ask).

Or will they only fire on targets they can currently see rather than in a direction?

I'd particularly like to get the ARs to lay down suppressive fire, but can't find a way to do it. Anyone know how?

I reconfigured my key bindings, I just press ALT.

however, you have to "adjust" the cursor properly.

It changes its form when you hit the right button (as mentioned before, I think its space and then alt, you have to try).

But you have to make sure you dont target anything, there mustn't appear a name of an object or enemy beneath the cursor!!

If youre sure you arent targetin anything while pressing the "watch that direction" button, just press mouse button 1.

Ahh. i always targeted a structure or an enemy and pressed supress.

....which would actually be more logical, rather than your AI mindlessly burning though their ammo as they obediently suppress that enemy tree ;)

I make sure I'm not targetting anything as you've described, but the AI units do nothing.

Do they then actually fire at the structure? Playing around in the editor, mind stand there doing nothing.

Nope .... have never got them to suppress ANYTHING (targetted or untargetted)

I think it's broken for now :)

I hear the Suppress command is broken. Try the Target menu.

Sorry for being dense, but is there any way of doing that to have an AI unit lay down area fire? Can you target a structure?

I've never tried because you wouldn't really want to. The target menu may work, as I have said. (Press 2 and select a structure)

Tanks can attack ground using the Watch There command.

That's a negative. No effect.

I really would like to able to get my AI to lay down area fire, especially the ARs and such. Oh well, they might fix Supress one day.

I suppose they do it to an extent automatically when they see an enemy.
