New addon: death from above!

Cool addon, but i've one question, how can I make my own dogfight?

when I place 2 planes, one east and one resistance, than the ai will flight along me without turning or even shooting at me:(

How can I make him fight like a men?

You can give all the AI planes "Guard" waypoints, then make a trigger in the dogfight zone and set it's type to "Guarded By East" (or whatever side the AI is), then the AI will fly around and guard that area. The Guard waypoint sorta makes the AI think more for itself than regular Move waypoints does, and the "Guarded By" trigger will make them more interested in guarding that specific area instead of the whole map.

I used that method for the dogfight in Demo Mission 06.

Who creates an Pearl Harbor 2 mission? wink.gif

That was my first thoughts when I flew the first attack against the village. biggrin.gif

Zero Pilot - Fighters of Silver Wing wink.gif

And shooting down the planes isn`t easy as infantry or pilot.

As an BMP gunner it`s okay - but the planes are annoying like an swarm of mosquitos...

Now Gimbal got to create another challenging mission (depends on the side):

Tossers vs Russky Cessnas biggrin.gif

And to enhance the chances for the resistance they will all get an additional slingshot with unlimited ammo. wink.gif

This a great mod. Our team is already developing dog-fight (and other) missions that are using this excellent addon.

One problem though, when in the mission editor and trying to remove all weapons from the T-411 AA, using "removeAllWeapons this" in it's init string, the preview freezes, crashing OFP. sad.gif

Should this work? Or am I asking too much?  smile.gif

Thanks for your comment! When you've got some finished and released dog-fight misisons, I'd love to try them out! wink.gif

Regarding your problem:

This is a general issue with vehicles. The same happens if you try to removeallweapons on a T80.

What you need to do, is set the Ammonition slider in Edit Unit all the way to the left.

Funnily enough this was the first time I tried to use that command on a vehicle.

We had a large LAN session yesterday and the new dogfight missions were the highlight. We thought they might only last a few rounds but everybody loved it. Many think that it's the first time that the use of air units in MP missions can be enjoyed by everyone. The planes aren't hard to fly, they're not too fast, and the camo textures really let you fly low and hide from the predators above. tounge.gif

We're currently setting up our web page where people can get our missions. I'll post again when it's ready. Would it be possible for us to mirror your addon?

BTW, if you want a plane (or any vehicle) to have zero ammo on only some of it's weapons, just turn the ammo slider to 0 and then make a trigger that re-adds the specific magazine. I usually give this trigger a tiny delay, to make sure the magazine is added AFTER the ammo has been removed at init time.

Hey Gimbal, just wanted to say again what a great addon this is, I've been playing a few dogfights, and loving it!

I was just wondering if it would be possible to add desert-cammo skinned versions of the planes to your addon, for use with the various desert conversions of Malden, Everon etc.

Hi,

I've also receiver request for a winter camo. I can make desert and winter (and a US plane) for version 2.0

2.0 will not come out until I am able to add the actual weapons to the plane's models. When this becomes possible, I will update the addon.

great mod, but aren't the planes a bit TOO weak?

They're done for after one AA missile from your addon, but when you fire the similar missile at for instance a chinook it does zip damage! And I was able to take one out using a barret m99 with only one bullet!

btw it's also great fun (imho) to ram grounded planes with high-speed vehicles

Well, I don't know if that Barret is overpowered or not, but think of a Cessna plane as a Skoda with wings. They really don't have any armor. A Cessna being hit with a standard AA missile has zero chance of surviving.

It's true that the FIA plane's AA missiles don't do much damage to other air units than light planes and OH58, as this particular missile is extremely small. However, it has 4 of them, while the Russian T411 only has 2 fairly stronger missiles. This was in order to keep gameplay balanced and not have a tiny plane down a Hind, for example.

love your planes! Haven't had this much fun since i figured out that you could blast cars several kilometers off mountain tops with satchel carges.
