LJF 0 Posted July 25, 2009 Is there any way to manually change the field of veiw in A2? Double tapping the minus key does an OK job but I'd like a permanant fix to put it somewhere in between, I feel claustrophobic in A2 at the moment. Is there a config you can edit somewhere like most games or am I in the proverbial creek without a paddle ...
galzohar 31 Posted July 25, 2009 Can be changed in the cfg (resulting in an effective global zoom multiplier), but the results are a bit buggy when you have objects close in front of you, and if you want to reduce the FOV so you can actually see distant targets properly, you will have a bit of a hard time moving around with weapons that don't allow the "toggle zoom out" button to be used. If you use this method for zooming out even more than the current view, you'll have even bigger issues seeing/targeting stuff at long ranges, and with default FOV it is already much harder in-game than it is IRL. LJF 0 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) Hmm ... I think I'll try the first fix, though like you said, I think I might run into trouble with scoped weapons. Edit: Ah, thanks, that worked really well. Edited July 25, 2009 by LJF
hamis 0 Posted July 25, 2009 Well, you can change zoom for all weapons too so it's not an issue. They can be found in wepons and weapons3.pbo's,look for opticszoommin, opticszoommax and opticszoominit(start value without zoom key's).
TheHarvesteR 11 Posted July 25, 2009 I opened up the FOV here using a simple method... I mapped the Zoom + and Zoom - commands in the game settings to a joystick axis, this gives me a variable FOV setting that I can change whenever... granted, you will need a spare joystick axis to use this method... but if you have the means, it works perfectly Cheers
LJF 0 Posted July 25, 2009 Yeah, I'm still not decided on a TrackIR - since Freetrack is no longer an option ... just trying to decide if the 300AU is worth it. I think that would solve the issue, I'm also waiting for a mod/addon/patch to fix the shift in FOV (unscoped -> ironsights = about a 5-10% fov shift that is jerky and breaks up the immersion) that was there back in A1 but got patched out, somehow it came back ... from the dead. I can't seem to find a nice basic usb non centering joystick anywhere.
KrUEgER 10 Posted July 25, 2009 he means an additional axis like a turning wheel or knob (throttle) , which you find on hotas joysticks
galzohar 31 Posted July 25, 2009 Changing weapon configs probably won't let you go online, will it? Globally changing the FOV via the user.arma2profile probably won't cause any trouble online (after all different monitor aspects REQUIRE changing it): fovTop=0.75; fovLeft=1.2; Change to whatever you like, but beware of clipping issues that may arise when you hve objects nearby, and like I said if you increase the FOV you will have a very hard time hitting/seeing stuff with unscoped weapons, and if you decrease the FOV you will have a hard time walking around with scoped weapons as they don't allow the "toggle zoom out" for some reason, which would be needed to get a "normal" fov again (with default settings I never feel the need for "zoom out" as the "normal zoom" FOV is more than enough). KeyCat 131 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) As TheHarvesteR already pointed out... the best way is to map a joystick pot/axis to ZoomIn and ZoomOut. I've been doing this since OFP:R and it's great since you can always get the best FOV for various tasks like CQB with iron sights, driving, flying helis etc. A simple joystick is all you need and if there aren't any separate axis you can always remove/unhook the springs on the X/Y axis on a cheap one and use one of them for FOV. Really glad to see this working again in ArmA II since it become broken in one of the later ArmA I patches (1.14 IIRC)... I haven't tried changing FOV in user.arma2profile but in ArmA I there was a problem doing that. Some of the objects (compass, clock, notebook) became almost impossible to grab and move on the map screen. /KC Edited July 25, 2009 by KeyCat
galzohar 31 Posted July 25, 2009 I don't see why you guys think that continuous FOV settings would solve your problems. I find myself moving around just fine with normal zoom (no need to zoom out), and needing the full zoom in for actually spotting details (detecting and shooting enemies) - in fact even max zoom just isn't enough. I don't see any real use for a mode in between max zoom and standard zoom, at least not if it comes at the cost of more cumbersome controls. Even some people that use trackIR say that they disable its zoom axis.
