dabble in DayZ? We've been dabbling in the armaverse for years and I think we understand fully. An admin spawner doesn't mean shit. Hackers aren't trying to gain control over admin utilities while they're in a server, they bring their own tools... So yeah, admin UI/dialogue or any sort of "admin spawner" doesn't mean anything. Unless ofcourse you vote the hacker for admin.:annoy: It's just a tool or admins... abusive admin? That's another story.

Note: I did laugh when I heard some of the dayz servers are actually selling the rights to fly helos (that they no doubt spawn with some utility).

I have dabbled in dayz extensively, though it's not my thang. I'm interested in the technology that it uses rather than the game play per se.

But if you're worried about this script, you should be losing sleep over everything that uses createVehicle. The whole architecture of this game does mean it's vunerable to some extent. The server hands over so much responsibility and trust to the clients that it's almost impossible to prevent the keenest of hackers.

Yeah it is awesome. The map mainly, I wish default BI maps looked like that. Indeed, very bad in the wrong admins hands.

The issue I'm referring to isn't what you are discussing.

When someone jumps onto a forums and puts a comment like:

Basically if an admin does a chat command (IE: #spawn UH1Y) it would spawn it somewhere near them.

What jumps out at you?

someone who writes scripts for a clan and is having problems with a script?

Someone who's looking at writing a new addon for everyone to use?

Someone who hosts a generic game type, has little idea or interest in coding and just wants to cheat?

You can split admins in to two types:

People who want to interact with the community

People who want to cheat 'legally'

I have no problem and lose no sleep over create vehicles or the even easier BIS functions to spawn vehicles, what they are used for bothers me and the people blindly defending puzzle me.

@ Iceman: Most hackers would be admins if they had any online friends left to play with. I mean hey, being an admin means you can cheat and not get banned. I'm not talking about hackers, I'm talking about cheating.

@ Tank buster: Createvehicles are extremely useful and I have no problem with them, what I'm against is someone lazily posting, without using the search function, asking for someone else to write them a script that they obviously want to give themselves an advantage.

Asking how to spawn a vehicle with zero context and zero attempts to write it shows that:

A. You are very, very limited in scripting

B. Lazy

C. Most likely just looking for this one script only, ergo you have a mission that someone else wrote, you just want to plug in an admin vehicle spawner. How could this script, by itself, be used for anything but cheating?

My beef has nothing to do with scripts and spawning vehicles, it's to do with this post and the obvious reasons behind it.

Holy smokes! So in short you're saying that there shouldn't be any admin tools because admins may use it to cheat. And at that, "Someone who hosts a generic game type, has little idea or interest in coding and just wants to cheat"... Honestly, who cares if a person hosts a game and uses "cheats" in their own hosted instance?? Also, that's a ludicrous statement, in that he's only asking how to do this to cheat. He may have limited scripting knowledge. He may be lazy. But coming out of left field with some conspiracy theory about how he wants to cheat isn't a very fair statement.

You should stick around here and you'll notice People (upstanding, long time members) ask for all kinds of things along these lines all of the time. Now, I'm not saying the guy wasn't trying to cheat. But I'm not saying he is either, because it's not fair and it's not wise to make random accusations like that. In short? How is anything in short? You never even realized a long statement to begin with. Your "short" statement was ~6X longer than your initial "right wing, not left" statement. In any case...

You were implying admin tools were bad because they would do things like host their own private instances and hack :rolleyes:. And, who said that everyone was here for the same thing (though most actually are)? If you had read my entire post you would have seen that I also said:

yes... clearly. Too bad your quote didn't include everything else in my post. I digress. Any utility for admins pertaining to spawning vehicles should be taken out of the game. Even if they host their own server and use it!! The guy was trying to cheat, becasue he asked a vague question pertaining to spawing vehicles with an admin command!! There, now you've won the debate!!

ps: no one was "attacking" anyone. It was a valid statement / question(s) regarding you're opinions. Inwhich I don't see how you can form such nonsense from such a short period of time. All of this nonsense coming from a person worried about if people are using admin utilities to cheat in their own, hosted instance. Thread locked in 3...2...1...
