Dreossk 10 Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) When I press the "Step over" button and I'm not near a wall, my character still does the stepping over animation and he looks like he floats in the air. The animation must not be played if I am not near a wall. Edited July 17, 2009 by Dreossk
Murklor 10 Posted July 17, 2009 There's no physical reason why you cant do the manouver without a wall.
Dreossk 10 Posted July 17, 2009 Well, it looks silly, it's useless and it makes the enemy spot you if you hit it by accident.
Beagle 684 Posted July 17, 2009 That keep your fingers from the V-key or map it to another key. No need to call anything a bug that somebody dislikes.
ProfTournesol 956 Posted July 17, 2009 Enemy may spot you if you hit a lot of other keys by mistake too...
celery 8 Posted July 17, 2009 Are you kidding? It's hilarious and makes for an awesome victory dance.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted July 17, 2009 Are you kidding? It's hilarious and makes for an awesome victory dance. I will never look at the step-over animation the same way again. :o Though its not as bad as that time when it was pointed out that Peter's chin looks like balls in Family Guy. :butbut:
mrcash2009 0 Posted July 17, 2009 V is simply a trigger for that animation no matter what. Simply trigger it when you need it, accidents = re map the key.
Dreossk 10 Posted July 17, 2009 It's remapped to spacebar since that's the key to jump over things in all other games. They just need to correct the animation bug and it will be fine.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted July 17, 2009 It's not a bug, it's a feature... just drop your rifle and start doing cool karate kicks.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted July 17, 2009 Anyway, I'd rather be able to do it whenever at the risk of looking like a retard than not being able to do it because the game doesn't think I'm next to an obstacle.
Dreossk 10 Posted July 17, 2009 It's called a contextual action and all games that have it are handling it just fine.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted July 17, 2009 Yes, but ArmA is unique in that it is very open to mods/editing, and sometimes 3rd party stuff doesn't always work as expected with other stuff. I can see where this being contextual could cause a foul up (especially if custom animations are involved). Also it is still impossible to make contextual actions 100% useable where they should be (due to unforeseen uses). Third, for a game of ArmA's scope it would seem very tedious to implement & test. Not to mention that the ArmA engine is pretty old, so you shouldn't compare her (yes, I've decided it's a her) to other, newer games.
