lone.wolf 80 Posted July 12, 2009 Hi is there anyplace where you can be able to find more facts about the whole country of Chernarus not just the South Zagoria...! I have looked and searched the net and only found two maps of the whole country but not much facts... It would be nice if you could have something like if you go to wiki and search for a country you get the basic info for that country... Maybe this aint much relevant for the most people's game experience but for me it gives me a more sense of realism if i have it. Thanx in advance..!
THEBLITZ6794 10 Posted July 12, 2009 chernarus isnt a real country. or even region. it may be modelled after 1 but there is no "black russia".
JuggernautOfWar 1 Posted July 12, 2009 Yes he knows this I'm sure. I too would like some more information like OP requested.
manberries 0 Posted July 13, 2009 This is not official, but maybe a start from conjecture. Chenarus seems based off Georgia. The hatred of the local chenrussians to the russian settlers, the name south zagoria, the fact that its exposed to water that looks a lot like the Crimea coast, and the fact that chenarussian sounds like Armenian or something along those lines. Also, the entire conflict looks a lot like how Georgia could of ended up. Therefore, I am going to say it is a smaller country of population under 10 million with an extremely sorted past with the Russian Federation. Which in turn leads to Russia's willingness to help the Chedaki.
The Masta 0 Posted July 13, 2009 [...]the fact that chenarussian sounds like Armenian or something along those lines. It's czech.
THEBLITZ6794 10 Posted July 13, 2009 It's czech. the guys at bohemea prolly made it after their backyard then ;)
manberries 0 Posted July 13, 2009 Czech republic is land locked.
derk yall 0 Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) ...exposed to water that looks a lot like the Crimea coast, and the fact that chenarussian sounds like Armenian or something along those lines. ... Wel the crimea cost is in fact the left river shore of the Labe (Elbe) river in Czech republic:). And the language (chernarussian) is the Czech language (the writing is changed, cause czech language use normal latinic leter). Hovever, the location where is the fictional Chernarus is somewhere around the Caspian see? I assume that based on the map loading in the begining of the oficial ArmA II trailer. EDIT: If I remeber corectly somewhere in the Preskit and on the arma II web, there is more info on Chernarus. (history etc.) EDIT2: http://www.arma2.com/chernarus_en.html Edited July 13, 2009 by Derk Yall
manberries 0 Posted July 13, 2009 ^ Lol got me again on that. Well, i pulled it outta my ass anyway so.
An-225 0 Posted July 13, 2009 Czech republic is land locked. It is a fictional country based on the Czech Republic.
manberries 0 Posted July 13, 2009 So your idea is that because they speak czech and a part of the land is based off the river that means its closer to the czech republic than Gerogia? This is in despite of where its located, its historical background, its relations to Russia, and to similarities to the Georgia-Russia conflict?
derk yall 0 Posted July 13, 2009 No one said that it is closer to czech. rep than georgia. Hoever the fact is, that the terain (map) is based on a location in czech rep. I think that An-225 meaned by based on czech. rep, that the terrain is based on it.:)
An-225 0 Posted July 13, 2009 ...earlier in the thread, someone stated that "Bohemia made if after their own backyard." You refuted this saying that the Czech Republic is land locked... I corrected you in saying that they had the intention to model it off a portion of their own country. ;)
frederf 0 Posted July 13, 2009 Chernarus is based on real land-locked terrain. They took a wide river that cut through the land and erased the eastern side of the river to make it ocean.
Xenios 0 Posted July 13, 2009 Just to be clear for anyone trying to make sense of this thread: BI modelled the terrain after part of the Czech Republic, and based the Chernarus language on Czech. However, politically and geographically, Chernarus is intended to be similar to Georgia. Georgia and Chernarus are both located in the Caucasus region; both are mountainous and sparsely populated; both border Russia; both have populations in a northern province which identify themselves as Russian (Ossetia for Georgia and Zagoria for Chernarus). And both countries have one feature which captures the interest of the U.S. and Russia: pipelines. It's hard not to notice the pipelines in Chernarus' coastal industrial cities. manberries 0 Posted July 13, 2009 But thats just the map of south zagoria. This thread was about information on the whole country. Culture, history, and demographics are what a country is "based" on. Take OFPDR's island Skira. The land is built off Alaskan country side, but does that mean its based off Alaska? Skira is based on the islands between Sakhalin and Hokkaido. Just like Chenarus is based off the countries between Turkey/Iran and Russia.
derk yall 0 Posted July 13, 2009 There you have information about fictional Chernarus: http://www.arma2.com/chernarus_en.html
manberries 0 Posted July 13, 2009 Chernogorsk is bigger than electrovodosk, thought it was the other way around. Learn something idiotically unimportant every day.
Joseph Troska 0 Posted July 13, 2009 and the fact that chenarussian sounds like Armenian or something along those lines. Chernarus sounds more like the old Soviet country Belarus, even if it is modeled mostly on part of the Czech Republic.
manberries 0 Posted July 13, 2009 ^ I would agree from a name perspective. Someone said he beleived it meant black rus like belarus means white rus. I am not sure about that since black is pronounced more like charni instead of cherni; but is entirely possible.
Pouk 10 Posted July 13, 2009 Yeah, we do pronounce it as "black rus".
mr_centipede 31 Posted July 13, 2009 I thought belarus = "black russia" and chernarus = "white russia"
manberries 0 Posted July 13, 2009 No. Russian word for white is Beloia (sorry about spelling) word for black is Cherni (again sorry for spelling)
