nem 10 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) I did a search and i didnt find anything related (1 thread with some "fixes" that didnt help at all:( ) Im posting this to maybe shed some light on this problem, i recorded a short movie with fraps and uploaded to youtube, watch it carefully at around halfway through and you see the ground start flickering. This happens much faster when i dont run fraps, but the program kinda slowed down my game alot..:) So, anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it? Looking forward to your reply. ***UPDATE*** Solved by editing msconfig and setting system memory below 8gb Edited July 12, 2009 by nem solved
Alex72 1 Posted July 10, 2009 Ground going from low to high is old. I have it in ARMA2 as well. But usually it looks good from a sharp angle - eye height looking forward will get me the sharp textures. If i look down at my feet it gets blurry. I dont have the flickering however, but it changes depending if i look straight down or not. If i raise texture settings it goes away. But i cant afford to do that with my current video card. It was in ArmA1 and is in ARMA2 even though on my PC its improved. Alex
randir14 10 Posted July 10, 2009 Do you get the weird flickering on certain buildings, especially windows which look like the sunlight is pulsating or something. Only seems to happen if I move, if I stand still it doesn't flicker.
nem 10 Posted July 10, 2009 I get the flickering constantly. Ive tried changing texture resolution from medium to low, ive tried disabling AA and AF, ive tried various resolutions (i play on an LCD so i tend to run at native) and nothing helps. I tried adding a "medium texture resolution" in the cfg file without any change. Ive ordered the full game from amazon so it would be nice to have this fixed before i got it:) I also have the weird mouselag, but its not as severe as some other peoples lag, and i know its covered in another thread so i wont bring that one up here. Is it possible that the texture flickering is related to me having 8gb system ram? And lastly, i dont have this problem in any other game. EDIT: I might add that more often than not, it seems like the game uses the low res textures on things that are close to me, when it should use high resolution textures.. I get about 25-30 FPS with my current config in the MOUT training mission, i expect this to drop significantly in online play with alot of action, but i havent really bothered tweaking settings just yet when im experiencing this problem. nem 10 Posted July 10, 2009 Ugh :( I want to play the game so badly, but im gonna get a seizure from the flickering.. Not to mention the game looks like crap for some reason, like im running it with all settings at the lowest value.. (i got 100% fillrate etc etc but there is no change to the textures, and the trees are mostly blobs:( ) I gotta get to bed now, hope someone answers during night with a magical fix :)

If so maybe change them back. Also check your texture settings for your card. Is it set for performance or quality? when I changed mine on my gtx 260 to high performance, the textures looked dreadful and the increase in perfomance was negligeable so I switched them back to quality. Andy09 10 Posted July 10, 2009 +1 for flickering especially when I'm using the map. Also get some tearing in-game on certain missions. Still it's a fun game
archsceptic. 10 Posted July 11, 2009 Yep, flickering textures shockingly bad. Insane LOD switching also - and trees look like ofp trees at around twenty metres, regardless of settings. In fact, the game looks terrible on my rig in general - grey and colour-less, terrible artifacts on shadows above "normal". The non ant-aliasing on telegraph wires in particular makes me want to tear my eyeballs out. If I switch anti-aliasing to anything higher than normal, everything looks plastic coated. I've even got the old ofp muzzle flash bug. The more things change the more they stay the same. This is the most frustrating game experience I've ever had, the graphical bugs are distracting to the degree that I can't concentrate on the game - and this series of games are very unforgiving when you are not concentrating - and completely break the spell of immersion. Pressing "escape" every two minutes in a futile attempt to find a magic combination of settings that will cure my problems. The ammount of problems I'm reading about wont be fixed in a next patch, we are talking several patches down the line before even 90% are fixed. nuggetz 0 Posted July 11, 2009 This problem is due to having too much memory. You dont state how much memory you have but if you have 8GB, then run msconfig and limit your system to boot with 7680MB of RAM and that should fix the texture issues you're seeing. nem 10 Posted July 11, 2009 I did write that i got 8gb ram, and i appreciate the help. I will look into this tonight and see if i can make it work. Will update this thread accordingly. Thanks for all the replies! Im glad that im not the only one with this issue, but also not happy that it exists tho :( (I have not changed any texture related settings on the driver level, only optimized for single display, and played around with prerendered frames (default was 3, tried 0 and 8)
nem 10 Posted July 12, 2009 *UPDATE* Editing msconfig and setting system memory below 8gb solved my problem. My performance is still a tad low, but textures etc looks like they should now.. Kinda.. :) (LoD still is abit weird, but its no longer flickering, and i run the game around 30-40fps now compared to 20 before)
