Why don't retard Mortar teams fire?

Recommended Posts

I made a mortar battery in editor, with 4 or 5 mortars. Went to attack it with a rifle squad, and they (mortars) don't fire a shot.

Do I have to write a bullshit script to make a default unit in the editor fire?

Place a bunch (like around 50) of hookers around them in the editor, and then a few goats, that should do it.

I think you have to have the artillery module in there and have to tell them to fire.

I don't think the mortar under AI control will ever, ever direct fire. In fact I have nooooooo friggen clue why there are ARTY and non-ARTY magazines for any of the artillery. You always, always have to swap out the default mag for a ARTY mag before it's useful anyway.

Gonna have to learn to use the editor.

Mortar is a direct fire weapon, as well as indirect.

If you place a D30 arty piece on the map, it will fire direct, but mortar wont.

Is BI gonna fix the useless mortar? I have no desire to be a programer, I buy games to play em, not rewrite the code.

(It'd be heluva lot easier to learn the editor if there was some kind of documentation for it)

Hang in there for Mr Murray's ARMA2 Editing and scripting guide coming out soon, it is free as well and choc full of information. There is so much in there that if you went through it all and tried everything shown in there you would come out the end a proverbial ARMA2 detailed expert. :)

In the mean time you can go through Mr Murray's ARMA guide as a lot of stuff in there is also relevant to ARMA2

How're you supposed to use direct fire with a mortar? Mortar's are (by definition) exclusively high-angle trajectory weapons, you can't even lower them far enough to fire them directly in ArmA2.

If you have no desire to learn how to edit then why are you even bothering using the editor at all? That's like buying photoshop and saying you bought it just to view your pictures and not to edit them.

I don't think you know what direct fire means. Direct fire means you see it, you shoot it. Indirect fire means someone else sees, you shoot it. It has nothing to do with how low or high the projectile goes. The 81mm mortar is definitely just as capable a direct fire weapon as it is an indirect fire weapon.
