vaaf_rup 0 Posted July 8, 2009 Loving ARMA2 except for one thing: the AI. Running the single player campaign, I requested a dustoff on a road. The helo driver crashed into a tree on finals. Now if I were that pilot, I'd be radioing "unable" and getting an alternate LZ. Any tips for helping the AI out, other than placing the LZ in the middle of a vast field with no obstacles nearby? EDcase 87 Posted July 8, 2009 You do have to select a suitably open LZ and then there is no problem. It is a pitty the AI pilot can't tell if the LZ is good or not.
JoeyNickel 10 Posted July 8, 2009 I also encounter problems with the Helicopter AI. Having the AI move a helicopter to a specific location, I'd expect the helicopter to hover there, maybe decrease speed before reaching the location. What the AI does: it does not stop at that point, it tries to reduce speed but drifts away until the end of the map is reached. Also I have no idea how to make the AI land the copter, except for telling the pilot to disembark, which mostly leads to the landing the copter at the desired position. Sometimes, funnywise, the pilot decides to land wherever he prefers, leading to landing in trees or offshore :) Short: heli AI is totally crap, not to talk about crashing into trees because of too low altitude. And I never saw the AI attacking any targets with missiles if available, but that's not only a problem with helicopters - if a gun is available, AI will use this, if not, it will do nothing. D_O_A 10 Posted July 8, 2009 Same problem here, i set a decent sized clearing in a forest, more than big enough to land safely, and the idiot AI decides it wants to land on top of the trees completely away from the clearing. Would be fine if i could take control of the chopper in the rare occasion he manages to land safely.
maturin 12 Posted July 8, 2009 Does the AI know how to press the auto- hover button? They seem to go one attack runs like an A-10 and will waggle all over the place while landing. Pairs of Kamikaze Mi-8s are standard fare when an Ambient Combat Module is active.
shataan 1 Posted July 8, 2009 I`m still wondering how to command an A.I. heli pilot to take me and my A.I. squad to a location. lol
datter 0 Posted July 8, 2009 I`m still wondering how to command an A.I. heli pilot to take me and my A.I. squad to a location. lol Select the pilot then go to the map, then tell him to "Move there" and click a spot on the map. When you get there you'll hover over the area, so just order your guys to disembark and the helo will land. Slightly different in the campaign, but the same idea.
