Little things count

I was playing ccrcti for the first time and I didn't know you needed a com center to use the map; so I proceeded to navigate using the compass and the gps. This was so close to real life that when the commander got things together and built a com center it took some of the joy away.

Hi All

I defy anyone to wonder around the area East of Krasnostav and South of Olsha on Chernarus where Blunt Rock, Willow Lake and up to the north of Black Lake is and not have their Jaw drop.

Surely the most beutiful patch of artifcial dirt that has ever produced.

At time I walk through this area thinking i have to visit this place for real, sometimes I catch myself realy caught up in how real the virtual world looks.

Kind Regards walker

At least he isn't wearing socks :p

EDIT : It'll probably turn out it's one of those mall walls, too :)

you take photographs of rock climbers? :)

Hi Rocksy

Obviously other people took photographs of me.

By the way I used to work at this indoor climbing wall.

http://www.castle-climbing.co.uk/

The girl you can see in the photo is Suzie, who has become one of the managers there.

Yes AimPoint: Five Ten Anasazi Velcros. After years of climbing with Boreal Ninjas slippers, I switched to the Velcros as they still had that fast removal possibility but do not slacken off to unusability after two months; I drop from my normal UK size 9 walking shoe to a 7 in climbing shoe.

Which brings me to MGB and Windexglow's points, climbing shoes are not a sandals they are shoes, only used for climbing and you do not wear socks with them. They have to be extremely tight so they do not roll around on your foot, also why most drop a shoe size in climbing shoe, I drop two sizes and yes it hurts, hence the Velcro so as soon as you have completed the climb you can take the damn things off.

The climb it self is at Castlemartin Range in Pembrokshire.

We are climbing just below the radar station. With one very notable exception I remember the day very clearly.

In the first picture, I am either seconding the climb, or top roping it, I doubt the latter as I very rarely do that. I prefer to do a climb on sight or to second it but what is more of a shock is that in the second photograph I am soloing. What is odd about that is: that I aways do a risk assessment before soloing a climb. It is a big thing, no rope no leader placed protection, just you and the rock but in each case it was because the climb was more dangerous to lead than solo; rope drag, wasting energy fiddling with gear etc. An I can remember every other climb I soloed but this one I cannot remember soloing it. I am just left with this photograph of me climbing without a rope, ten feet above where I was in the previous photo, odd?

I have soloed several climbs like Three Pebble Slab on Frogatt:

http://www.rockfax.com/databases/r.php?i=1418

It was recently down graded from E1 to HVS, I do not dispute the regrading.

Tody's Wall 50m to its left has killed 3 people and gets the same grade of HVS.

http://www.rockfax.com/databases/r.php?i=1410

I would never solo that instead I have lead it 4 times and I have never managed to get up on the cheese block the same way twice. It is the most, thrutchy, horrible, awkward pile of beautiful crap there is. It always attracts a crowd of people watching and often laughing and pointing as the leader, flops around like a beached whale on the crux often dislodging the gear that is supposed to be protecting them. Hence its ability to kill people.

Any way getting back to the point of the post. The reason I like that location in Chernarus is the obvious rock climbs. It kind of reminds me of places I have climbed; in fact I find it to be the most realistic part of Chernarus. If it exists in reality I want to go there and go climbing, assuming the rock is not some choosy crumbling tottoring sandstone boulders similar to Tunbridge Wells, Yuk!

If you have not seen this area of Chernarus fire up the editor and have a wonder round its a great place to put missions. There are lots of ditches and dells as well as the rocks and lakes, forrest and open fields

Kind regards walker

Kudos Walker.

My old man used to be an instructor/climber/caver back in the day. Taught me to go the cliff, forwards. But never up them.

So we can expect some mountain climbing mod to A2? There were so many unreachable peaks/summits in A1 that I missed some equipments to get over big rocks.

There's climbers/ex climbers lurking everywhere it would seem. ;)

LOL@ climbing shoes = sandals. Wearing socks with climbing shoes means only 2 possibilities, (a) complete numpty or (b) really lazy aid climber.

Nice photos walker. Soloing is totally nuts, but respect to those with the balls & skill to pull it off, not for me though.

Back on topic though, I've been having a few times where I've just struck off in a random direction while playing in the editor, and its amazing how realistic some of the terrain seems. I've even been spending time just randomly driving around the backroads of Chernarus (I really do need to get out more). Kudos to BIS for making such a convincing slice of digital terrain, now, if only my computer would run it worth a damn. ;)
