penguingt 10 Posted July 6, 2009 Hi, my problem is basically what the title says iv looked around and have found people with there game crashing and freezing but no one with the identical problem as mine it freezes randomly such as in the editor, main menu, or any time through out playing the game. iv tried running all different types of graphic settings and nothing seems to work, it just freezes and that loud buzzing noise through my speakers. and iv noticed that my hard drive light doesnt blink any more. so i bought a new one sense i needed it and thought it could be the problem, it wasnt iv tried updating my Nvidia drivers and reformatting my pc twice. im getting really tired of this :| im thinking about buying a new video card but i thought id come on here and ask for help first i have a 8800 gts 512mb and a quad core 9400 amd. i forgot my power supply but its at least 500 because that was my old one help please (: thanks in advance - penguin

Murklor 10 Posted July 6, 2009 The two main culprits are usually that either the game is simply freezing because it decide to f**k you over (there's little you can do about this), or you are "overheating". I say "overheating" because its probably not doing it in GPU-burning-up type of way. It may be that you're power choked. I bluescreened previously (which, before it actually BSOD shows it self by a freeze and buzzing through the speaker when the sound locks up) but I've noticed considerably more stable behaviour when its colder weather now and I gave my admittedly overclocked CPU and RAM more juice. Arma 2 was the only game that showed this for some reason. Damn needy baby.
Nostalgia 10 Posted July 6, 2009 Would you happen to have a Creative sound card installed in your computer? The problem you're experiencing, and hearing, sounds similar to the "Screech/squeal of death" problem exhibited in Creative sound card. However, if the sound sounds more like the buzzing of a bee than ear-ringing or a high-pitched beep, I would rule out the "Screech of death" problem. "Screech of death" symptoms: 1. Game freezes. 2. Loud ear-ringing/high-pitched beep sound is outputted through speakers in a continuous loop. 3. Must restart computer to stop the sound.
neurojazz 10 Posted July 6, 2009 I had this in other games. Usually, it looks like the computer is stuck in a tiny loop - this is a graphics card error when it gets too hot (time to clean the dust off your fans!). Because this game is stressing your components to the max, you must check that your cooling and case are fine - and the main culprit here is the Gcard being furred up with dust and/or airflow problems. Sometimes people think leaving the side off their case helps cooling - and it can actually NOT help as the air flow isn't going around the way it should inside the pc box. After cleaning the fan on your gpu, make sure that cables are tidy inside the box so that air can move around. Also, if you have 3+ hard drives in your machine then consider just having 1 active (think of heat inside your box) Make sure the box isn't near a wall and the air can escape freely. Then make sure that your other cards inside your box are spaced away from the GPU if possible. Hope that helps! If all this fails, it may be that your gpu has become faulty :(
randir14 10 Posted July 6, 2009 Have you overclocked your CPU, the same kind of thing happens to me if I overclock mine too far. Computer will freeze randomly and start looping whatever noise was playing, then goes to a BSOD.
MPBR 10 Posted July 6, 2009 Also had it happen to a few games a few years ago. Took some time testing to locate the issue, was as I first feared, a brand new $1K video card that was broken. Screaching lockups and endless looping sound is normally always hardware related. Be it from heat / lack of Power / faulty gear.

penguingt 10 Posted July 7, 2009 hey thanks guys i think its a heat issue cuz i keep my graphics really low and my card isnt getting as hot and my pc hasn't froze tonight (:
TechnoTerrorist303 10 Posted July 7, 2009 Try installing rivatuner and maxing your gpu fan out to 100%. You'll be able to get more performance out of your graphics card then as it won't wait for load before applying the maximum amount of cooling.
f2k sel 164 Posted July 7, 2009 I've never been able to adjust the speed of my fan (8800gt), RivaTuner shows it changed to 100% but the rpm never moves. Having checked the temps that isn't the cause as mine will freeze even when in the 2DEditor on occasion.
