Arma Crashes! Help Needed! Searched and Nothing!

Recommended Posts

TBH pchaxor, I don't think we're suffering from the same error.

Example:-

I'm running the latest 186.18 Nvidia drivers with the SLi EVGA patch, Arma 2 is patched to the latest and all my other drivers are at there latest versions.

I've done no tweaking of the game apart from running -nosplash in the target line.

All settings on the Nvidia control panel are at default.

In theory, the game should run and stay running with theses settings.

FPS and smoothness are irrelevant at the moment, this is where all the tweaking should come in, to improve fps and smoothness, not to just get the game to basically run.

I've deleted the .cfg file so Arma2 will detect everything again

So I'll start the game.

Arma has defaulted to texture, terrain, object and shadow detail at normal, Video Memory at Very High, Anisotropic at normal, AA at normal, post proc at high, quality pref of very high with an interface res of 1920x1200x32 and a 3d res of 1440x900(75%)

I shall leave them there and not make any adjustments

I'm in the main menu, I can happily Alt-Tab in and out to carry on with this post.

I'll pick, single player/editor/Chernarus and put a UH-1Y in the middle of the airfield in the top left quarter of the map with me as pilot.

Ok, Ive clicked preview and I've had the loading screen followed by the receiving screen (which flashes black and white, reminding me of an old spectrum loading screen. Don't really think it should do that BTW)

I'll get out of the chopper and just stand facing it for a while, not moving.

Ok, been to the toilet, had a smoke, made a cup of tea and brought in the rubbish bin (trash can to the Americans) off the street and everything is still fine after 10+ minutes.

Processor running at 30%, Ram at 36%. Gpu's at ~60 degrees C and vram at ~50 degrees C

Lets ramp it up a bit and go for a fly round!

Ummm, what a lovely day for a trip.

Framerate is silky smooth with the odd slight pause and the occasional bit of texture 'popping' on buildings, but nothing too bad.

Still very playable

Headed north and then turned south for a bit of low level through the valleys and finally over towards the coast.

Yoinks!, textures beginning to flash a bit, damn it's frozen at 18 mins.

the mouse cursor is visible in the ceter area of the screen as if there is an error box lurking behind.

Alt-Tab out and the game has gone, not even still running in task manager.

I don't agree that Arma2 stresses my system into falling over as my CPU never goes above about 45% @ 40 degrees C, ram usage over 50% and my GFX cards never rose above about 60-65 degrees C.

That's not a system workout in my books.

I've even played about 2 hours of online L4D at totally maxxed out settings at 1920x1200 with Prime95 running in the background when I forgot, and it never missed a beat then.

I'm not convinced it's totally an Nvidia fault ( but some issues may lie with the drivers)as none of the other 10's of games I run seems to fall over, some might not run great, but they still do run, the one thing that ArmA2 can't seem to do.

I've tried all the other tweaks, driver changes and settings that people have recommended and fps and smoothness are affected, but not the fact that Arma2 can't seem to manage more than about 20 mins before it's texture buffers seemingly overload and it bails out.

I personally think, rightly or wrongly, and I'll admit to not being an expert, that it's all down to some way that Arma2 addresses the video memory on the GTX 295 cards or the fact that the memory architecture of the 295 is a little flawed.

I hope to be proved totally and utterly wrong, and that it's a simple little fix, but hey, I ain't gonna be holding my breath.

.CFG file reads:-

I can handle frustrations of a new game. What I am having issues with is no response from any official.

PCH seriously thank you for trying to work with us. More than can be said for the people that sold the game.

Jepaul I have posted another thread outlining the same issues you are having as well.

Jepaul have any of these tweaks helped yours at all?

It doesn't seem to be a settings issue for me as it actually seems to do it quicker when everything is turned all the way down for me.

Same problems here.

My .cfg is much emptier than everyone elses containing only:

language="English";

adapter=-1;

3D_Performance=48387;

Resolution_Bpp=32;

I'm running:

Asus M2N

AMD 64 X Dual 6400+

2x 2gig C2-5400C5 DDR2

NVidia 8800GT 512MB (Driver 186.18)

Win XP

Crashes to desktop up to 7 minutes into game, never any longer, often much quicker.

I'm getting towards my wit's end with this.

copy paste the missing stuff in and fill the x's to suit your H/W... also delete your arma.cfg first and restart the game, it should make a new one, then chk to see if it is set only to read in its properties(rt clk file choose properties)

Yeah, don't get too excited though... It's still buggy as f*** and don't try very high settings just yet either! Gonna be funny to see what it plays like in quad when the other 295 rocks in tomorrow.

my quad ATI works great. But i am not so sure of quad sli..(hope you have 90a to 100a 12vrail).

Tri Sli is working for some. Just dont get to excited about NVDA having easy driver support for ARMA with quad sli, it wont be Bis's fault if your quad is fail at first. There are new beta drivers out for NVDA, well a leak anyways. It maybe till first of august for nvda and ati to have a handle on the next patch(1.03).... or if and when the 1.03 unite all the game versions patch comes out...

Should have enough juice for the quad set, but if I smell burning I will just jump out the window. The chap I got the first 295 from had a nice set of 280's in Tri and a nice Xscore on vantage too. I am hoping the quad will speed up CS4 and just be a bonus for gaming (or vice versa!?) Looks like Nvidia do have an eye on Arma though, first dedicated patch I have seen from them for a long, long time!

Hey man you have to know that I have tried SLI a year ago with ArmA and it also suffered from mainly lack of Nvidia support on the SLI. I KNOW with SLI you need to turn off the vsync or you get flashing, also expect an Nvidia update to sort this all out. Next driver or perhaps a hotfix.

295 blues incoming! Nvidia beta'd an sli fix for Arma II today http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/nvidia_sli_profile_patch_uk.html

I maxed out the performance settings and it is still pretty shit on fps but it is now playable if you liked the ZX Spectrum for graphics.

Yup this might help, but Ill bet the 295 needs a new beta/updated driver to fix it. In about a few weeks to a month this will all be sorted out and fixed.

I Finally got my copy of ArmA 2 in the mail today (Purchased from Game.co.uk) as it's not out for over another week in Australia.

I installed the game with the serial number supplied on the back of the manual. After a hours wait on installing I started the Single player campaign & rescued the hostages & blew up the coms, went back into the village where the graphics went all corrupted (tearing/flashing white) & the game froze up for about the third time, this time it did not CTD but a full restart of the computer was needed.

Went to launch the game (Disc in drive) for the fourth time, it went through the "tick boxes" and the BI logo came up then crashed back to desktop saying "Bad serial given in setup" or something along those lines.

I patched the game to the latest 1.02 before starting.

I can provide photo's of the box, disk & receipt & anything else to prove validity.

I am in the process of reinstalling in case any corruption happened in the game crash but I am worried that if it crashes again the same problem will occur.

*update*

I have been playing for a few hours now & it has not crashed (yet). I restarted the computer a couple of times to see if it caused the "Bad serial given in setup" msg but it has not. I am thinking though that when a hard crash occurs it will cause some files to corrupt thus making the copy protection shit itself.

Anyone else had the same problems or could point me in the right direction

chkdsk c: /f /r

defrag c:

I use O&O defrag once a week & the disc has no errors.

I'll probably run into a problem sometime this arvo as I'm going to push ArmA 2's limits to see where the problem lies. I'm 100% sure it's not my computer but more of the #2's coding in-game. Never had this prob with #1

I should have listened to the game reviewers out there but the demo was so much fun I had to buy it. Shame the Demo ran 3x smoother than the full version on my rig.

Few quick thoughts

Any OC'ing ?

Any Error Logs from crash ?

Monitored Temps @ crash ?

Run a intensive benchmark application to try and stress the system to the same point with same or different resuslts ?

From my experience I've noticed other players online CTD'ing or getting BSOD at the same time. For example 6 players logged on playing on the same server all having problems around the same time.

Had my first CTD online tonight.

Never had CTD's in ArmA1 and so far not in ARMA2 until tonight. Rebooted system - always defragged and all that. I think it happened just about when i pushed to talk - teamspeak. Never happened before but did tonight.

Whos fault that is - no idea.

Alex

I have witnessed all of us on the server CTD at the same time. Something server script side.

Did the nvidia patch for the beta driver work for anyone here? I get frustrated after searching these forums and then reading through every relavant thread but none seem to have any answers and more frustrating none seem to have any responses from any at Bohemia. I'm not lazy and I could do this myself but has anyone actually seen a member of Bohemia actually come in here and solve a problem?

The only thing OC'ed is my GPU & that's factory. Does not seem to cause any problems in other games. Reaches about 68c playing ArmA 2 with the fan set at 55%.

I tried out turning off PhysX acceleration http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=76908 & it seems to run much better in the "My missions" & I did not have any CTD's or graphics corruptions.

I'm not that keen to get back into the single player campaign as that's where the problem is. I think I'll wait for another patch or 3 before attempting to give it a shot.

Thanks for the help fellow soldiers :)
