Kibles 10 Posted June 28, 2009 This tutorial system is, by far, the worst I have ever used. I have not played ArmA1 at all, and I am unfamiliar with the controls. I start up the ArmA2 demo, and am at a complete loss on how to operate the game. What I can do now: move (on foot), sprint, crouch, prone, stand, aim, fire, go up and down in a chopper, move forward in a chopper, switch weapons, salute, and sit down. I cannot do anything else, and the game will not tell me how to do anything else. How do I pull my parachute? How do I scroll through my command list? How do I pick up the injured guy? The game will not tell me how to do any of this, thus I cannot finish the tutorials, let alone play online. It will just say "Use the action menu...." what's the action menu and how can I access it? I don't know because the game has failed to tell me how. I feel as though the game doesn't want new people to play it. Myself and my fellow clanmates cannot figure this game out. We sat in ventrilo for a solid 30 minutes trying to finish different tutorials, but could not because we were not told how to execute certain commands, such as pull a parachute. We have decided that we will not be buying this game because, quite frankly, we where not informed how to do anything past firing our weapons and basic movement. mr_centipede 31 Posted June 28, 2009 yes agree with you.. I played the demo, and the bootcamp was a bit of a shock to me too, eventhough I already played OFP and ARMA1... The training didnt tell you much
chaplainDMK 10 Posted June 28, 2009 When you move up to a guy you will have an icon where your crosshair used to be (middle of screen) for fast selecting from the action menu and you use your scroll wheel to select stuff from the action menu (left side of screen) I didnt need a tutorial to figure that out in OFP when i first got it... If you didnt figure that out in 30 minutes with another guy over vent...:eek::eek:
Alex72 1 Posted June 28, 2009 All done in ACTION MENU wich comes up when you are in need of doing something. Ususally anyway. Scroll mouse to see action menu where you do things like pull ripcord, open doors, get in vehicles etc. Moving you got down already so thats about it. "R" for reload, "F" for rate of fire/grenades (action menu for changing to rocket launchers) "N" for NVG, "M" for map, "K" for compass, "O" for wristwatch - GPS you have to set in control options. And i probably missed something. But your on your way now. Alex
MindSpray 10 Posted June 28, 2009 I think he didn't figure out the scroll wheel because I sat for a good 5 minutes looking in the control scheme for an "Action Menu" label, and there is none. Didn't help that I had numerous bugs running through Steam which most likely came from tabbing out (Such as the game not auto ejecting me in the parachute training, and I sat in the plane circling the drop point, hitting every button on the keyboard to try to figure out how to jump out). Another control scheme label which should be switched is the 'Switch Weapon' label. It should be 'Toggle Fire Mode'. Another question, why can't 1-5 be different weapon slots, and why isn't there a toggle crouch if there's a toggle prone.
Kibles 10 Posted June 28, 2009 I was able to get in the chopper and pick up my weapon for fire range training before (I forgot to mention that), but there is no context sensitive icon indicating any use of the injured man. And why should the developers just expect players to figure this out? Tutorials are meant to tell the players how to work the game to near completeness. ArmA2's tutorial has done far from that, and has just created confusion and frustration.
vshadow 0 Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) Is this the demo or the actual game? The actual game comes with a manual that helps with a lot of stuff. When I played ofp for the first time I do feel the controls were introduced better (and through the campaign might I add) though I do remember going in to the control settings a lot to find how to do things. Even after playing ofp and arma (arma not so much) I’m still finding things hard in the game which are not talked about in the manual or tutorials, stuff to do with high command and the warfare construction/buildings. Really there needs to be a more in depth manual/tutorial for everything, maybe optional ones for complete beginners which tell you everything to a depth that makes it as easy as possible. And then more advanced, advanced tutorials for things warfare and high command, which covers the reloading of static defences, and ordering other squads to divide up in to several turrets/vehicles, and how to rearm squad mates at the buy weapons bit without losing your own weapon. In short yes please for at least a more in-depth internet manual that covers every small aspect of the game. Edit: also the tip bar at the top right hand side of the screen flashes though tips to fast to be read by the average human sometimes. CarlGustaffa 4 Posted June 30, 2009 I take it the manual was too well hidden to check out? :p
Rex Kramer 10 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Well add me to the list. I've spent hrs running thru boot camp/etc as I want a thorough knowledge of whats going on b4 entering combat. One problem im seeing now is the heavy weapons range and the long range weapon. It does not want to equip nor shoulder. This happens as the enemy attack...wtf there was no mention that was going to happen? I just want to finish the the tutorial. How the heck do I get 3rd person view? [num] is not working... ive checked the options to find the command and it doesnt seem to work for me? So far though this is fun! ---------- Post added at 02:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:22 PM ---------- OK any suggestions on the MOUT course? I'm over run b4 i can even get to it.. no or little cover between range and course. Im assuming everyone is enemy as no red or green shows. Do you grab the MP5 out of the weapons cache? is it needed? They start shooting as Im just starting. No indication from shat direction, switching to map only gets me killed. ---------- Post added at 03:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:36 PM ---------- Ok so whats up with the MOUT course? Really its like where the hell are they shooting me from? Like its 10 against 1 and im surrounded. this is in regular mode? b4 i even get to the village. Mout course needs better instructions than, "OK put to use what youve learned" then your assaulted from every direction including sniper fire? Sorry for QQ, just paid 49 bux and very few instructions at this point in boot camp. Edited June 30, 2009 by Rex Kramer Solved and issue
Eclipse4349 0 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) To the original poster: The manual or the "controls" section of your options menu would show you that the mouse wheel scrolls through the Action Menu, and middle mouse or left click will execute the order you have selected. Quite simple, really. To Rex Kramer: I got killed a few times on the MOUT course, till I realized that they are not under any orders to stay in the town, and will come out after you once they know where you are. The enemy in this game is pretty damn smart. They will flank you very effectively from the moment they fix your position. You cannot have tunnel vision and expect to survive. It is necessary to keep moving, especially after firing at someone and giving your location away. Sometimes falling back over a hill or other obstacle and coming at them from somewhere else is the only way to go. Otherwise, the guy you think is a threat is really just occupying your mind until his buddies flank you and ventilate you from close range. =) Edited June 30, 2009 by Eclipse4349
Rex Kramer 10 Posted June 30, 2009 Eclipse, thanks, that info will help. Whats the objective, kill the warlord or everyone? Any idea how many under "regular difficulty" I'm up against? They appear to have snipers and mortars. I'm just trying to finish up this section b4 moving on.
vshadow 0 Posted June 30, 2009 From what I remember you have to kill that guy to stop them attacking. As for the mortars as far as I knew they didn’t have them sure they are not pelting you with grenades? As for the snipers I don’t remember finding any but then again I took out the whole village with only 2 of them taking shots at me the rest of them got shot before they knew I had moved and was somewhere else.
