stealth150 10 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) ARMA 2 sound does not work on windows Vista 64 at all, I understand this issue has been discussed already, although there is still a very serious issue. To fix the sound problem, the 'March' http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0CF368E5-5CE1-4032-A207-C693D210F616&displaylang=en version of DX10 needed to be downloaded, unfortunatly, i went straight to microsoft and downloaded the latest version, 'June' http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=822640ab-0983-4c41-9c70-632f6f42c557 which does not work for some reason. Unfortunately also, there is absolutely no way to backtrack through versions of Direct X. This is a very serious issue as this game cannot be played without sound and it is irritating to be penalised for downloading the latest version of DX10 instead of a specific version. This is a problem which will be a encountered by many users and is one that needs to be addressed immediately. EDIT - Problem sorted. If using with steam then go to steam apps> common> ARMA 2 demo> DirectX and run the Direct X setup there for the correct version of DX Edited June 27, 2009 by stealth150

kklownboy 43 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) install the march one over the top, no issues... and you never DL DX10 you DL DX, which has 9 and 10... ARMA only use DX9. I use vista 64 have the march( most recent) and have no sound issues, play with 5.1. Its ok to install DX runtimes over each other. As for the june 2008... you have to have the october/november 2008 to run ARMA1... just DL the; http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0CF368E5-5CE1-4032-A207-C693D210F616&displaylang=en its a genuine so you have to get the chk... Spicypixel 10 Posted June 27, 2009 This doesnt seem to be the case, the linked setup claims a newer version of DX is detected and no further action will be taken.
stealth150 10 Posted June 27, 2009 Agreed, later versions of DX cannot be installed over the top, it doesn't allow this as it simply detects that a newer version is installed and takes 'no further action'.

kklownboy 43 Posted June 27, 2009 This doesnt seem to be the case, the linked setup claims a newer version of DX is detected and no further action will be taken. download the full version not the web installer, unpack it and find the DXsetup.exe, your good to go... i do this alot on quite a few machines..
