Spawning an empty vehicle

Recommended Posts

Firstly, hello all. I am new to these forums however OFP was the game that got me into PC gaming and I'm loving ArmA II.

I am a noob at the editing lark and as I can't find any noob guides so am hoping someone can help.

I am making a kind of training mission/map for my clan mates with loads of different types of unit, some squads and a load of different vehicles. This is to help some of the clan who are new to the game to pick up the basics of control, squad commanding etc.

I can spawn in troopers and squads but when I spawn vehicles they always have a full crew so you can't run up and get in them. Is there a way to spawn empty vehicles?

After you've placed a player in the editor, you can place units of side "Empty". You'll find all the vehicles you want under there.

As I said above, you have to have placed a unit set as "Player" before the Empty menu shows up.

I am also a bit of an editing newbie and have a similar problem. I want to spawn a squad INSIDE a humvee or tank without the current crew being inside it, so the vehicle is effectively empty then filled by the squad. After some reading and trial and error, i can make the squad and players spawn inside the humvee by grouping the humvee and squad, then setting the squad to 'in cargo' However, i still have the original members of the humvee squad on board. I've tried using an empty vehicle but i cannot group these to another unit as i would for placing the units inside. I am also trying to make a similar scenario which starts a squad of soldiers (any kind) in airborn parachutes (shot down plane, paratroops, use your imagination). I recon i can group the soldiers and empty parachutes in a similar manner to placing the units in the humvees but no luck so far. Can anyone help me out?

Name the humvee, h1 say... then in the init line of each of the squad members:

this moveincargo h1

You can also use this for the driver and gunner

moveingunner
moveindriver

There is probably a way to start a whole group in cargo, but the above way works a treat.

Is there a way to order un-named units into an empty vehicle? As in, the units are already there, the vehicle is there, put a "get in "waypoint on the empty vehicle, but the units ignore the "get in" waypoint and simply move on to the next waypoint without the vehicle.

I am working on a coop CTF mission with AI that behaves like a human, and uses the respawning vehicles while moving about their waypoints. The only way I have been able to figure out to do this so far is to name the vehicles and units, and use triggers to detect the units presence at base and the vehicles presence at base, then a thrid trigger to assign the units to positions in a specified vehicle and then order them in.

When the AI respawns, they do not have their name anymore, apparently. I got a script from Tajin that respawns vehicles and keeps their original names. Is there a way to order units into an empty vehicle that cannot be grouped to those uints because it is empty and therefore not on the same side as the units? Or would I need a script similar to the vehicle respawn script that would respawn the soldiers with their names intact, so that my trigger method of odering them into the vehicles if the vehicles are present would work?
