erazor 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Love the game, but atm one of my biggest issues seems to be the lacking ability to 'auto-walk'. And by that i mean press a button once and your guy keeps on moving. Its fatiguing on the fingers constantly having to hold down "W" to move - and this game is all about covering lots of ground. Most games by now have auto-walk keys - maybe Arma2 does too, but i can't find it? hmm?
Fred DM 0 Posted June 23, 2009 Most games by now have auto-walk keys what games?
Bigtnaples 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Only games I know of with autowalk keys are RPG's. I cant remember EVER playing a FPS with an autowalk key.
Stealth2555 0 Posted June 23, 2009 I remember Joint operations Typhoon rising have it, but that's the only game i'm aware of having it.
Eulogy 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Half Life 2 has auto-walk doesn't it? Maybe I'm thinking of something else.
erazor 10 Posted June 23, 2009 world war 2 online, to name a FPS ;)
Bigtnaples 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Half Life 2 has auto-walk doesn't it? Maybe I'm thinking of something else. lol no way does Half-Life 2 have auto walk. There are no open areas large enough to use it more then 30 seconds.
Razorman 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Simple, i use a joystick for flying which is allways plugged in, map your throttle key to forward. All i do is roll my throttle forward & the guy or car or tank or whatever i'm controlling keeps moving forward.
Gorgi Knootewoot 0 Posted June 23, 2009 Put a piece of paper between the walk key and another key on keyboard. If the walk key is pressed down, force the paper in and voila... autowalk. Or put something heavy on it.
SASrecon 0 Posted June 23, 2009 I remember in ARMA1 my heli was hit by AA and i had to eject into the sea in a game of warfare so i put a heavy object on my w key and left it facing the island, had lunch and when i came back i was 5m or so from the coast ;-) I'm against auto walk though, on land if went for lunch and got stuck against a tree and I came back to find out i only ran about 30m i wouldn't be very happy. It also takes out the whole effort into this game. I wouldn't mind an auto-walk, but an auto-run key is just not neccessary Put a piece of paper between the walk key and another key on keyboard. If the walk key is pressed down, force the paper in and voila... autowalk. Or put something heavy on it. just do this if you really have to :D Auto-land is already 'nooby' enough (couldn't think of a better word) so we don't need an auto-run. Fred DM 0 Posted June 23, 2009 Only games I know of with autowalk keys are RPG's. I cant remember EVER playing a FPS with an autowalk key. true. i remember Morrowind had it. possibly Oblivion, too. hardly qualifies as "most games", though. it's a neglectable feature, and since it isn't very realistic, one may forgive ArmA 2 for not having it. Nutlink 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Yes, Oblivion has it. I wouldn't mind it in this game because, like he said, you have a lot of area to cover and holding down your forward key can get tiresome. 99% of the time it's not an issue for me though.
rundll.exe 12 Posted June 23, 2009 fun fact: Without needing to hold down your keys: You can press and hold the forward key, and alt tab out of the game and your character will keep moving. Only works with -nopause startup command ofcourse (or in MP). Browse the BI forums while swimming to the shore!
Typheus 10 Posted June 23, 2009 I think Oblivion and Fallout 3 had auto-walk.
Farks 0 Posted June 23, 2009 I think Oblivion and Fallout 3 had auto-walk. Yes, but those are RPG-games.
katua 10 Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) An auto-walk key would be very useful specially when you are controling AI soldiers, so you can advance/move more easy while giving orders at the same time, also if you want to scratch your RL balls or if you are smoking a cigar that hotkey would be useful too. Recnelis2 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Auto walk is a much needed key, there is no reason not to have this implimented in game with or without a joystick. There is no immersion removed from the game or anything of that nature. If you want to worry about immersion stop allowing people to turn their grass off, it sucks for other people who have grass on to try and see people through grass when they can see you because it is turned off. However the Joystick idea isnt a bad one.
JonasRC 10 Posted June 23, 2009 How is it such a strain, if you need to press hard, get a new keyboard. I can only se autopilot feature for air and seacrafts. I don't know how you guys play the game, but I am constantly looking around while running to be sure there are no enemies, this requires me to hold Alt key when I don't use trackIR. Run from cover to cover and rest some time so the aim is not fu'ed up if encountering enemies. Some missions, like when patrolling a large area where you could run/walk for tens of minutes without even spotting enemy could be tiresome but it doesnt stop you from sitting down taking five. When you DO encounter enemy it gets even more fun and exciting, especially if you are outnumbered :)
Eulogy 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Oblivion, that's what I was thinkin of. Where I got HL2 from I have no idea. :/
-DirTyDeeDs--Ziggy- 0 Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) Put a piece of paper between the walk key and another key on keyboard. If the walk key is pressed down, force the paper in and voila... autowalk. Or put something heavy on it. 'C' battery placed on 'w' key ( nipple side down ) = auto walk :D Edited June 23, 2009 by [DirTyDeeDs]-Ziggy-
Typheus 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Farks, they use FPS movement most of the time. I'm not going to argue whether or not they're RPGs, cause I really don't give a damn what genre a game is as long as I like it, but I'm just saying that it was a game that used FPS controls that could let you auto-walk. Thirdup 0 Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) Heh, anyone who has ever walked 30 minutes across one of the OPFP/ARMA maps from the middle of no-where feels your pain. ;) (I use the "piece of paper" if my JS or left controller are not hooked up) Oh, and this isn't some oversight on the part of BIS. They left it out intentionally. It's long been debated since OPFP first released....thru ArmA....and now ArmA2. Not gonna happen. Smuke 10 Posted June 23, 2009 BF2 has autowalk, its a useful feature
nodunit 397 Posted June 23, 2009 If by autowalk you mean hold a key then press a chat key and leave it there then yes it does have autowalk.
toloquta 10 Posted June 23, 2009 I remember Joint operations Typhoon rising have it, but that's the only game i'm aware of having it. I hope the BIS guys have played a fair share of JO. They ought to at least see some of the things NovaLogic did and maybe even add some of the ARMA2.
