Recommendation on Keymapping?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a setup ready for lefties ? My trackball is located left of the keyboard, so the Arma 2 preset settings makes it hard to play.

The 'F' and 'G' have "marks" on them that can tell you that your hands are at the right place, if you're using any key combination that includes them.

I have a Logitech G15 keyboard which has a number of programmable keys.

I've tried to find a ArmA mapping file, but couldn't find one....

Anyone using a G15 keyboard for ArmA(2) too?

(Thanks for some very useful tips in this thread!)

working on one now.

m1,m2,m3 each used for inf, plane. car

I have used the numpad since 2001 and ofp.

Im simple minded and dont like to learn where the keys are, must be some system..

So I use numpad and this way: the middle row for speed (2=back, 5=walk, 8=forward, /=fast forward) then the left keys to strafe left (1,4 and 7), strafe right right side keys (3,6 and 9). Lean and roll left is 'num lock' key, lean and roll right '*'.That makes it, for me, more intuitive to move around. Page up and down for changing posture, "," is reload, num0 pistol, '-' climb fence, '+' change weapon mode.

Right mouse button is optics and if I hold it it is holding breath (+ making my trackir more stable).

Other keys are: arrow up=zoom in, arrow down=zoom out, arrow left and right is turn left and right (if mods enabled I use them for sightadjustment).

Home = select all units, Enter= gear, num enter=action.

All the rest like gps, time, compass, map, nvgoggles are on the different keys with the same first letter.

All of this is the same for vehicles and commanding vehicles. For air I use CH hotas so there I have all keybinds on the setup.

Its a little different setup than most use I believe, but I buildt it for me as it is more easy to find the keys when I can see and feel some logical shapes on the right side of the keyboard. If I use WASD I get lost among all the nonlinear placed buttons that are too close for my fumbly hands when Im stressed..

Lean/roll left------fast forward/sprint-------lean/roll right------climb fence

strafe left(evasive if x2)--forward-----------strafe right

strafe left----------------walk--------------strafe right----weapon mode

strafe left-------------backwards-----------strafe right

pistol ---------------------------------------reload-----------action

If anyone is interested I can post my profile, or you can set it up like I wrote here.

edit: enough deskspace is needed to have the keyboard to my far left..

I be interested to see other people profiles and feedback - new to this game and learning the basic, but not a newbie to FPS or combat games.

One thing I always try to do, once I understand the basic and commands, it try set up my key-bindings that are as much similar with others games I that I am playing with the type of same genre, COD, AA2,3, CS etc. Being the old guy/gamer that I am :), this help me in where I do not have to remember different configurations for each and every games to do certain things. Since I do not have the same reflex speed as someone in their twenties, I can still be competitive, since my brain and fingers had been programmed to hit certain keys automatically.

Left Ctrl + 2x 'E' for 'Eject' is a kind'a nice thing to have when you need to bail fast from vehicles!

I just do 2XE with no ctrl for speed. But then again I also changed ALL changeable keybindings in the game.
