okarr 10 Posted June 15, 2009 ok so it seems that fade is somehow activated. (i got the degrade warning occasinally on MP servers, not always, but sometimes). I want to know. how can i verify that fade has kicked in? is there a registry entry, a log file, ... any thing of that kind so that i can know for sure. I dont get the degrade message when playing single player. my copy was bought and paid for via petergames online shop. i dont use virtual cd drives although daemon tools was installed on this machine at some stage. i m paranoid now as it was the first time i bought from that peters stuff and i hope i didnt get ripped off there. (no point arguing piracy please because i have the bank statement to proof that i paid for the game)
killaalf 0 Posted June 15, 2009 As you said you noticed the message only in MP, are you sure it is related to you at all? AFAIK you get the message if a player with an illegal copy joins a server, so that could be it, you know.
My Fing ID 0 Posted June 15, 2009 Make sure you entered your serial correctly and use the download utility to download the files. Make sure you do not change any files that came with the game. Run any mods as mods. I think you'll be fine if you do this. You'll prob need to re install at the least
okarr 10 Posted June 15, 2009 yes i noticed it only in MP. ok if it shows for every one on the server that could explain it. wow ... great relief :bounce3:
Alex72 1 Posted June 15, 2009 Was the message in the chat? And if it was in the chat did it write your name as well? "Okarr uses an illegal...". In ArmA1 when someone with an illegal copy enters it will write it out in the chat for everyone to see. Im not sure how it is in ARMA2, but check that before proceeding. maddogx 13 Posted June 15, 2009 It would be funny if there was a scripting command to test which players are suffering from FADE (i.e. the ones who get the FADE warning), so that mission designers could add some additional MP features to it. :D Like making them randomly spawn as cows in DM/TDM games. Or making their guns randomly explode with the message "PlayerX's gun was not a legitimate copy. Remember, original guns do not blow up in your face!" Alex72 1 Posted June 15, 2009 LOL! Should be fun. Need to puke more awkwardness and crappyness on those cheap bastards! :D
okarr 10 Posted June 15, 2009 the messages came in global chat but didnt have a user name attached to it. "Orginale verschlechtern sich nicht" or close to that was the message text.
maddogx 13 Posted June 15, 2009 the messages came in global chat but didnt have a user name attached to it. "Orginale verschlechtern sich nicht" or close to that was the message text. Yeah, that message is visible to everyone when a FADEing player joins. Nothing to worry about. :)
hoak 0 Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) More hard factual information regarding FADE for paying Customers is warranted. No DRM system is above reproach as literally all are buggy, most are the target of and subject to exploit -- and I know BI would not suggest their system is any exception. There must be a way for a paying Customer to ascertain he has a FADE issue i.e. it's falsely being triggered. It may be only a miniscule or even non-existent issue, but the paranoia, doubt and distrust of actual game mechanics is VERY BAD PR... I think many feel that applying FADE to 'fading' weapon accuracy is a huge mistake because of the level of anxiety it creates for paying Customers about actual game-play; plenty of posts and voiced frustration and paranoia are the price BI pays. There are certainly other game features BI could turn on or 'fade' that would send a much more blatant message to Pirates, like switching off Anti-Alias support, or 'fading' in post processing effects that made the game so ugly it was unplayable... :( Edited June 15, 2009 by Hoak

okarr 10 Posted June 15, 2009 or just ... not let you launch any mission or mp map. then you d know for sure. i m just relieved that my copy didnt start to fade afterall. :)
My Fing ID 0 Posted June 15, 2009 You'll know when fade is affecting your weapons. Take an ACOG, aim at a target 50 meters out and if you miss continuously fade is active. I mean there is no doubt, you will know.
