Server Peformance Increased with Block

Recommended Posts

Well We have elimiated weird server lag over lan on our server. We blocked it from talking to the gamespy servers at all because even in Local it attempts to and does. Sites also get info and Ping data from the server through gamespy as wel.

After blocking the 3 gamespy servers for our server we no longer get.

-Delayed or inaccurate Lock on Positions

-No Marked Enemies on the map that are not there

-Blipping Markers on map no longer there

-Initial Server Lag when server contacts gamespy servers when mission loads is gone.

-Most Random lag when server is getting pinged and sending data to the sites that collect data from your server like users/points/run time and etc.

So now i guess we will just only allow direct IP connects or Local users anymore as long as this is the only fix for this problem.

Gamespy = Game crapper

Interesting. Did you try to disable reporting via server.cfg once?

reportingIP="<>";

Thanks for info man, I'll give this a whirl. I'm going to test disabling the reportingIP command in our server.cfg file for the dedicated server and see what happens.

Strangely, eventho I have reportingIP="" in my test config, the dedi arma_server I create is listed in the MP list. It has either something to do with it being on my PC and having many ports open or something else.

Maybe this works different on servers as most of the ports are blocked there by winserver & firewall.

I think he is talking about activey blocking gamespy & related ports by firewall settings in order to make it really "private"

With how many players you tested it? How many players are normally playing, what kind of Maps you play? Use of bigg script-heavy addons, etc...

Has anything changed in the setup/playernumbers/maps you play, as you blocked gamespy?

Maps

ACE Islands

IC Islands

Sahrani/Unite Shrani

Missions are CRCTI variants with Extended Event Handlers. The CRCTI mod uses about 1.5gb of addons.

Amount of players seems to be random Its internal most of the time meaning at my Lan I have setup where multiple computers are all linked and a Wirelesss Bridge goes to another building allowing others in that building to play in this network as well.

Hi all

Sounds like it may be worth while having a function to reduce poling Gamespy to say once every 10 or 100 or 1000 game cycles once a mission is started.

Perhaps Suma should look at it for the next patch.

Kind regards walker
