Volumetric Clouds

Recommended Posts

It's been bugging the hell out of me, playing ArmA, and then flying through a flat cloud (with some occassionally ugly and random textures that don't fit, like a grayish purple over the rainy cloud) with a cheap skybox in the background. For it's time, it was wonderful. But now that the ArmA 2 can use this feature (volumetric clouds), will it? It's not exactly the most important feature, but it adds just that little extra bit of realism, seeing (and moving through) "fluffy" clouds.

Just throwin' this out there to the devs.

Either way, I can't see ArmA 2 being anything less than an improvement over ArmA.

I would be surprised if it didn't. I mean, BIS has shown off their fog in older Arma 2 videos and it looked good in some screenshots. Maybe they'll be able to use the same system for clouds, atleast during storms when the sky is pure gray.

Well if any of you have heard of the NIM Dynamic Weather mod (for ArmA), that's what I would like to see in Arma 2 at the least. The only problem with NIM DW is it isn't a mod that works like, say for instance, chammys sound mod. It requires placement in the editor and configuration for the effect.

The mod itself can be found at:

sry to necro this old thread, but maybe better then starting a new one?!

How can you activate the volumetric clouds in arma II? I bought ToH and just startet the Utes editor but still have normal clouds. Do I have to copy some files or so?

Drop a weather module on map and set overcast.

You've got to run tkoh:rearmed. then you get all arma2 feature and mods with tkoh much improved view distance and volumetric clouds which look awesome..

See latest beta patch in tkoh forum for details.
