Overloaded with mod choices need advice please.

Recommended Posts

Ok I've decided to come back to ARMA today, I look at the mod selection and WOW there are allot now!

I basically always play single player and crave max realism so I was leaning towards the SLX modual with ECS with it for maximum immersion. I also loved CSM and ARMA effects before and was wondering if they are compatible. I'm looking for the most realistic AI, weapon, wounding, vehicle damage, effects combination available but I don't need things that only work for multi.

Please help me cope with the huge choice, I did read the recommended for realism sticky in the mod forum but that seemed more for multi.

So many mods, don't know what to choose!

Would I be better off using SLX or 6th as the core mod? I looked at both and 6th seems to have more of a multi gameplay focus than SLX.

I was thinking of using SLX for the core changes then ECS for the additional options then stick on the effects and sound mod as needed.

Do any mods other than SLX have the wounded and dragging mechanics and the non-insta exploding vehicles?

- If you don't play Multiplayer games too often (or you don't play MP at all), SLX with ECS (plus some soundmod and effects mod) would probably be the best choice.

But if you decide to play MP, be aware that SLX contains vehicle smoke that causes huge lag! (Im not sure if there is a fix for that yet, you'd better search the SLX mod thread before playing any MP games wink_o.gif

- As far as I know, at the moment only SLX contains the wounded dragging system. (But when ACE/IMWM Mod is going to be released, something like that should be there as well)

- Dunno what exactly do you mean, but if youre speaking about vehicle armor changes: There are some mods tweaking and changing the armor values for certain vehicles and/or soldiers (like TrueGameplayMods - helicopter and soldier armor changes), however I dont remember the names of those mods huh.gif

Hope this helps smile_o.gif Have fun playing ArmA!

If you want realism, the new Truemods and Truegameplay mods are the best out there until the ACE mod is released. Play around a little bit with them, you'll find the AI does a great job suppressing, taking cover, and flanking, at least in wooded areas (Things still tend to fall apart in larger towns).

I use them with VFAI smokeshells and the DMwarwick smoke shell viewblock addons, as well as the HiFi sound mod. The thread linked to earlier has a lot of great replacement models that add a lot to the immersion.

Performance has smoothed out a lot in the latest patch, too, but I still use lowplants and keep the HDR setting to low, so I can max out all the other settings and still get 30-40 FPS outside Corazol or Pariaso.

Well when i came here after getting ARMA I felt the same, but at that time there was no real place to get a definitive overview, very fragmented.

Now there is, and its the thread posted above :

If you cant make your mind up without help as blatant as this thread, then god help you man. tounge2.gif

I use pretty much 90 percent of whats in that thread, clearly you have a choice of weapon replacements and new models but stock things for SP are Arma Effects & Smoke, ECS <<<<< ... Durgs vegitation fix etc.

A bit of advise, create modfolders (search for it here on the forums). Preferably more than one, i have a "test" folder that i put the latest downloaded addons in. By doing so its much easier to find what addons that are giving you trouble, it happens from time to time tounge2.gif
