Ofp with 3d glasses

as a normal dutch bloke i dont have a credit card so ordering them from a site is useless sad.gif

Those are just shutters, thought you guys were so amazed with some sort of heads up display.

I have a wired version that came with my ASUS card and let me tell you: they are only as good as your monitor lets them to be.

Basically you can not have proper VR while still using your monitor, the refresh rates are okay, but the phosphorous pixels do not dim sufficiently between frames and you can get a double picture effect(especially with headlights and laps).

You can get those kind of shutter glasses with many video cards also, look into that when getting your next card. They are worth a try if you have never experienced them before.

Jason, how does turning your head work if you are using shutter glasses and monitor? Your monitor doesn't turn with your head...

Also, does moving your head in Real Life move your gun or your head in the game?

What I want is a Virtual Reality headset with infrared tracking. It's awfully expensive, though.

The head tracking works with the monitor like this:

You turn your head but keep your eyes trained on the monitor. It sounds silly but is really fast to pick up once you've tried it.

Moving your head is just like moving the mouse, so it does (by default) move your gun in the game. I've got one key (a macro I programed) that enables the IR head tracking and turns on mouse look all in one keystroke.

That way I use my mouse as normal for flying, driving and fighting, and the head tracking is turned off. As soon as I'm running across a field or crawling in the bush or driving/flying in a vehicle, I turn on the headtracking and the mouselook and simply pan and scan my head around. It's totaly intuative.

It's even saved me from being seen on more then one occasion. Using the mouselook while scanning for a target makes you much harder to see then turning your whole body and having everyone see your body turning about. I know you can do that with out the IR tracking unit but it's so much faster and more intuitave to just "look around" (with your head, not your eyes wink.gif) and have your gun right where you left it when you're done looking around.

I've been watching the VR headsets for years and have been very unhappy with the resolution, weight, and cost of them. The 3D Glasses with the IR head tracking unit is the best most cost effective means I've found to get that level of emersion with out the loss in resolution associated with the VR headset.

Here's something interesting I found out last night about OFP3D...

When I was still using my GeForce2MX card, some objects in OFP were rendered in 2D, like smoke from pitfires (but not my iron sights  biggrin.gif ). Hence, they look disjointed and "floating" in front of the firepit.

However, last night, I went back to a mission I created just to test something out, and man I was SURPRISED that now, the smoke is rendered correctly in 3D! NOTHING in OFP now is rendered at 2D depth!

Now, I can only guess the following might be the reasons:

1. I upgraded to a GeForce 3 Ti 200 recently. It may be due to the new hardware.

2. The nVidia stereo drivers were different - used to have 23.11 (from the nVidia site), and now using the unofficial 28.32 ones.

So, for people who are still screaming about how OFP sucks in 3D, try changing the drivers first. If that doesn't work, then it must mean that newer and more powerful hardware will enable more objects to be rendered in 3D smile.gif

Hope this "discovery" helps some of you out there...

Hi Elite!

Is your T&L Enabled in OFP ?

Because I have a GeForce 3 Ti 200, with nvidia stereo drivers 29.40.

And I have still the same problem with smoke rendered in 2D.

(I have problems with shortcut key for setup the glasses and with the iron sight too, but I think that it's normal: I've just only past 2 hours for try to setup this glasses!wink.gif

Well no, T&L is disabled because I read somewhere else that it's a good idea to turn it off. Anyways I don't see any difference with and without it, so I leave it off.

I'm not too sure what you mean, but just to re-iterate - now, with my current setup, NOTHING in OFP is rendered in 2D. Everything has depth, meaning everything is at the correct "depth", or "distance". For example, if there's a firepit that is lit, the smoke coming out from it is OVER it.

With my old GeForce2MX card, the smoke would seem to be "stuck" on the monitor screen, and since the firepit itself is further "inside" the monitor, the smoke and the firepit doesn't "join".

As I said, that problem has mysteriously disappeared for me now.

You say every everything is in 3D now and nothing is at screen depth. Does this include, Hay stacks, burned out rusted wrecks and fuel stations?

Those and the smoke are the "2D" (at screen depth) items I've found. If it does in fact fix all those issues I too might just try the combo you've mentioned.

The HW T&L turned off might be the fix as well. I'll try it and post back my results here.

Ok it's run without T&L !

With T&L enabled I had 2 problems:

- iron sign in 2D

- Smoke in 2D

Without T&L: no problems!

Yesiree Bob! EVERYTHING.

Anyway as I said before, and I'm gonna say it again, the only problem I had with my old GeForce2MX card was just the smoke and some lights being at 2D. Even back then, my FUEL STATIONS were not 2D objects, so I'm rather puzzled why some of you said the fuel stations were 2D objects.

So, before anyone else writes and asks me the same question, read the sentence below:

EVERYTHING IN OFP IS IN 3D NOW, NOTHING IS RENDERED IN 2D ANYWHERE. THAT INCLUDES SMOKE, TYRE TRACKS, LIGHTS, FUEL STATIONS, HOUSES, HAYSTACKS, BUSHES, TREES, SKY, WRECKS, DEAD BODIES, NAKED LADIES, BABIES IN DIAPERS, TOURIST WITH CAMERAS AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU MIGHT WANNA ADD  wink.gif

How I am configured:

1. HW TnL OFF

2. W-Buffer ON

3. nVidia Detonator 28.32 WHQL

4. UnOfficial 28.32 Stereo drivers.

5. GeForce3 Ti 200

6. Follow 3D Configuration steps in Avon's FAQ ( hehehe! )

I'm having difficulty finding the UnOfficial 28.32 Stereo drivers. Could you please point me to a valid link? The only one I've found from a reliable link is at Guru3D.com but it says it's the 28.32 Stereo Control Panel.Guru3D.com's Unoficial 28.32 Control Panel.

Is that the same file that you're using and calling the UnOfficial 28.32 Stereo drivers?

Thanks for the reply R. Gerschwarzenge! I'll see what I can do with those drivers. You try them yet yourself? Any luck making the few remaining 2D (Items at screen depth) 3D?

Like smoke, tred marks, tourists with cameras etc? wink.gif

Well I have the 28.32 drivers and control panel running and ELiTe called it. EVERYTHING is in 3D now. Running like a champ. Even the Big Busted women of Kolgejev are in stunning 3D!

But the depth seems more subdued then before. Everything seems to be a little more shallow, not as deep in the 3D world. Then I remembered the HW T&L issue and disabled mine.

Seems it launches a different executable or something when it launches without HW T&L because all my 3D settings have to be recreated for running without HW T&L. So I'll get them reset (Thanks to ELiTe's wonderful walkthrough! ) with out HW T&L enabled and see if the 3D depth looks any better.

The only difference in graphics between the two modes I found was on some of the buidings. They look a little more detailed with HW T&L enabled. Not enough to monkey with it if you have your 3D glasses running right, again because you'll have a different config for each mode.

I'll post a followup report here after I get it running correctly without HW T&L enabled.

Ok, I'll just get my Elsa 3d glasses this afternoon (as the company went broke those are real cheap now smile.gif ). I got a NVidia GF2 Ti, so they should work fine with my system (Detonator 29.42).

What resolution/refresh rate do you recomend? At the moment I'm playing at 1280x960/32bit, but the monitor isn't good enough to have that resoltution at >100Hz, so I'll have to reduce it, right? What refresh rate do you consider an acceptable minimum for using the glasses?

Oh, something completely unrelated: how can I activate anistrophic filtering with the new Nvidia drivers (29.42)?
