tophe 69 Posted July 10, 2008 I'm looking for some nice fresh ideas for some upcoming missions. Does anyone have any ideas for a cool mission? I's kind of easy to get stuck in your old habits, so it would be nice with some fresh input!
Niftyeye 0 Posted July 10, 2008 Dunno really, smaller game types focusing more on COOP and PvP would be nice. I recently played the zombie 'range of death' Campaign and its excellent. How about an infected game type? where all players (32 or whatever) are cordoned off in a city or set on rahmadi, and basically have to survive. Maybe one player would start as a zombie or infected, and although easy to kill can hide and kill in one slash, if a player gets infected he joins the zombie team, before you know it the zombies outnumber the players and its up to the few remaining to try and hold out as long as possible. icebreakr 3159 Posted July 10, 2008 Plently of ideas... I read PMC/SpecOps books from various authors to get some fresh. And input from Slovenian soldiers from their missions and things happening around them (Chad, Iraq, Kosovo, Afghan, etc).
Daniel 0 Posted July 10, 2008 Reading books is always good. You can try and reenact events or simply borrow them. For example, back in OFP I read up on recent SAS operations and borrowed aspects from Op TRENT and BARRAS. Hell, I even got an idea for an airstrike mission from watching Transformers. Â I also tend to get inspiration from recent co-ops and the islands themselves. Just flying around and thinking to myself "this would make a great spot for an ambush", or "this place would be fun to attack".
tophe 69 Posted July 10, 2008 Yeah, I usually take a chopper for a spin to get inspired! I don't read commando books though... Any more specific ideas for missions? I forgot to mention that I only do coop mission right now.
Daniel 0 Posted July 10, 2008 Yeah, when I mentioned SAS, I didn't mean skeaky sneaky stuff. I meant having some units HALO in to secure a makeshift airstrip so that the rest of the force could roll out of C130s in WMIKs into the Afghan desert. Never got round to finishing that, was close though! Â I find co-ops much easier, seeing as you can rely on humans to be able to do things that AI would be a nightmare for AI. How about a mission where your squad has to drive and guard a convoy where the middle truck contains high profile POWs. Enemy units could either be trying to kill the POWs, or trying to capture/rescue them.
Kerry 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Maybe aim for a Chechen Vs Russian theme? You could use a dense forest on Schmfelden or something.
Hellop 0 Posted July 22, 2008 Here's an awesome idea. Have two teams. One team is the Covert Operations and the other is the Freedom Fighters. The objective of the Freedom Fighters is to plant an explosive in one or two different designated locations. The Covert Operations must prevent this from happening, or disarm the bomb in time. Also, maybe the FF could have hostages that the CO have to rescue, or something. Sweet Idea huh? You could call this mission, "Strike Back."
Daniel 0 Posted July 22, 2008 Aye, CS style missions do actually work quite nicely in ArmA. It's nice to have a bit of backstory and reasoning behind scenarios. Just mean as an alternative. It's nice to have a mix of themes/duration/sizes. Do of course love the bigger scale stuff but a server may not always have the players.
icebreakr 3159 Posted July 22, 2008 You have to think bigger usually we play one mission long for two hours or even more! Here's an idea I have for a new Uhao island that is coming this month: Players play as civilian tourists and they can wander around the island from the shipport or airport. OPFOR is played by a local army C/O and he has an option to set tourists to friendly (setcaptive) or enemy. As he sets enemy, AI army patrols start to cycle waypoint and drive around island looking for them. A couple of OPFOR squad NCOs are played by human players and they can scout the island or maybe have order to protect ONE of FIVE vital army points such as storages, armor faciltity, ammo depot etc. If all five objectives are met and C/O OPFOR is killed the civilians (aka PMCs undercover) win. If 3 hours pass civilians get deported and OPFOR C/O takes control of the island as its king Villages should contain ammo crates that civilians can use to fight guerrila style. Kerry 0 Posted July 27, 2008 BlackWater/ SF resuce 2 italian hostages from Al-Quada on the Avgani or Sakkakah Islad. they fly in with an MH6 (already in flight when the mission starts), then they land on the roof of a hotel/ some other building that the hostage is in. the enemy is either FFAA terrorists, WP terrorists, or Syrian military with a mix of insurgents. Ive already started working on it, but the hotel in Sakakah seems to be pretty buggy. I havent tryed it with Avgani, but you should give it a go.
icebreakr 3159 Posted July 28, 2008 Kerry: thats pretty close to LWulf's mission that will happen this Thursday on our squadnight except that 4 men are pinned down at the ambush point when TV crew humvee got hit by RPG...
Kalimar 0 Posted August 5, 2008 Here is one. The premise is that you've been shot down (like a cutscene of an ejection from MAS' FA-18) at night by some gunnery placements on the island. You must use stealth and strategy to leave the island while a Ka-50 patrols around. There would be one boat and one small helicopter giving you a choice of either, but each would have their own risk/reward. (Also, having it random where you land by parachute might be nice as well. I'd also like to put some randomness in there, like different troop spawns and etc. Mapfact's Dry South Sahrani or Occam's Desert South Sahrani or just South Sahrani would be the setting. (United Sahrani is just unnecessary for this and it doesn't give the feel of a small island.) Forces would be all around the island. I really would like to see a recreation of that Evacuation from Everon from the Flashpoint campaign but with a Behind Enemy Lines feel to it as a pilot who just ejected.
