Major helicopter gunner issue!

Hi guys, I've had this game for about a week now and am having several issues.

First: In the cobra helicopter when I pilot, my HUD shows all of the gray and red boxes that represent targets or buildings and I am able to tab target them when I need to, which is good. BUT, when I'm in the gunner position of the cobra, my HUD does NOT show these red and gray boxes for some reason, so I am unable to tab target ANYTHING. I have no idea what is causing this and is really starting to annoy me.

I'm using Vista 32bit if that has anything to do with it and I'm using the arma effects mod.

Just plain old Arma Effects from armaholic. About 30 minutes ago I just installed that view distance mod because my view distance resets to 1km range whenever I join a server :P But that could not have an effect on it since it was just installed.

Turns out that this is more of a random issue. I seemed to have fixed it by letting someone hop into the pilot seat first and THEN getting into the gunner seat. Or if that fails, I repeat it but flush my textures.

Maybe it's a logic issue? Pilot needs to get in (maybe turn engine on) before targetting system starts working?

Not sure, in other situations the pilot was already in and flying around and landed to pick me up and I still could not see the squares. It's really starting to appear that it happens randomly to me, or it has to do with something between me and the server.
