Well to use an old Cliché..... "When its done".

Anyway, as a quick glance at the official site will tell you... sometime in 2008. Tho with BIS's track record for on time game releases (or lack there of), Id give it 50/50 odds at best for a release in 2008... this is the same game that was suppose to come out in 2006 originally after all. Beyond that, there is no info about a release date.

They'd do well to release it in 2008 if OFP 2 does indeed live up to it's ambitions.

Thats true, but people who plan to buy ArmA2 will still buy it no matter what OFP2 does, and vice versa. OFP2 is going to outsell ArmA2 no matter when BIS releases it because of the name... OFP was an award winning game that was very popular. ArmA is known as a really buggy game that was released 6 months too early, and wasn't much more then a rehash of a 5 year old game that has many of the same problems as OFP. You tell me which games sequal is going to sell better.

What bothers me is really no mention on game sites etc. I see the same going on for T34 vs Tiger. You look at eb games, file planet etc. Nothing is said. Makes one wonder.

CM could easily say something like 'From the makers of DIRT and GRID comes now the ultimate mil sim ... OFP2'

... and have a lot of attention of gamers because mentioned games are just quality titles (albeit not true hard-core sims). Compared to that, what can BIS say??? ... ArmA2 will only attract attention of hard-core mil sim gamers. I doubt they will attrack masses and even the hard-core BIS fans can be very harsh in their opinion (remembers Elite)

I wish BIS all the luck, and i look forward to toy with an ArmA2 mission editor on 360 .... but a sales success??? I have my doubts

Well i think BIS should really start (as soon as they have showable screens) to do some more PR. There must be more previews and such in all game magazines worldwide.

Also i would consider to expand the business-model with download able game. This is a market with a exponential growth and even I consider to buy Arma2 Online because of the following reasons:

- I have it immediately after download

- I save money compared to retail version

- I know that way way more money goes to where it belongs - the game creators (BIS), rather than in the money-horney distributors and shop pockets.

Regards, Christian

I think the reason why there's not so much information yet, is a few things, which include:

[*] BI gives info when they can give info. No info, probably means there's not so much certain yet, or maybe they just dont have time hmm smile_o.gif

[*] Experience with ArmA; "Hey we read about this feature in Magazine X, back in 200Y, and now the feature is not in the game!", 'gimme mah monneh back!'

I'm not too sure there mate.

Look at the D2D version and esp the Steam version, if im not mistaken, even those are handled by the Publishers. (example is the Atari / Steam thread).

I guess it just depends on business strategy; Will BI take a part of publishing for themselves and arrange download stuff? Or will they make other companies do that.

AFAIK, for ArmA1, BI took especially small and cheap publishers, because they wanted to have more control over the end-product and more money. (Something with a Codemasters-past that didnt work out so well).

However, Im unsure atm what was confirmed about this and what was speculation smile_o.gif

Well, I would think it has quite a bit to do with the fact they released a ton of info for "Game2" three years ago, and since the game was given the name ArmA2 last year, we have learned that almost all of the really cool things we heard about it years ago, have gone missing. So hopefully BIS learned not to promis things that very well might not be in the game, as they did when they talked about the original Dynamic Destruction system like it was already finish... when in reality (so they say) it in fact was far from ready for game use.

Then again, BIS has never really been huge on releaseing info... but they really should work on a bigger press push for ArmA2 if they actually want it to be successful. Quite a few sites, such as Gamespot don't even have an ArmA2 listing... and even the really old "Game2" shots are listed under OFP2 on some sites. So its going to be kinda hard for some people to find out about ArmA2... which is never good for sales.

I think (we always "think" about it ! ) they at least should add a new article on www.arma2.com ; it's official website and no news since mathusa*cough* a long time... sad_o.gif

IGN UK

According to that website its getting released on Dec 31st 2008.

But I think this is just a generic date until the actual release date gets published, at least I hope so.   sad_o.gif
