mopheadslc 0 Posted March 1, 2002 ok here's the deal. i had 1.42 and i upgraded to 1.45. installed 1.45 fine (file check thing ran ok). right after the codemasters banner on the OFP startup, the game crashes. i get the error message "config.cpp/CfgVehicles/Fountain.animPeriod" error. its driving me nuts because i can't play the game!! how can i fix this?? Skulleye 0 Posted March 2, 2002 If you use Satchel's sound addon, remove it. That will fix the problem. I hope Satchel will release an updated sound addon for 1.45 soon.
suma 8 Posted March 2, 2002 To remove Satchel soundpack delete config.cpp file in your OFP/bin directory. If there is no such file, you probably do not have this soundpack installed. Do not remove config.bin.
Intruder 0 Posted March 2, 2002 quote deleted - contained large picture Just remove the config.cpp file from the BIN directory (the one that was added by the sound pack) and replace the config.bin file that was origanlly there. I done that before upgrading to 1.45 becasue it wouldn't let me upgrade with the modified config file.

Bloodmixer 0 Posted March 3, 2002 Sorry if I go off-topic here, can't delete my post I noticed :/ , but here goes... Maybe it is a good idea if BIS gets in contact with Satchel for the Resistence expansion ? I mean most people agree satchels sounds are superior (apart from firing sounds) to the original OFP sounds....just an idea, or simply a rework of OFP sounds in the expansion
Placebo 29 Posted March 3, 2002 Nice idea in theory, the problem with that is the legal issue with the sound clips Satchel used, does he own the rights to all the clips? If not he's still allowed to use them himself (I think?) because he's not using them for profit, if those sound clips belong to other people then they cannot be used without the express permission of whomever created them in O:R because that is a product to be sold. If you would take sounds from a tv documentation, maybe you would violate no laws? Maybe guys who own a shooting range or who are still in the army could get us some recorded sounds... Would be great if Satchel`s work could be implented

<span id='postcolor'> I'm no expert but I would imagine that recording sounds from a tv show would still be an infringement of copyright when used in a commercial product. An example of something similar would be when rappers use sound samples from someone else's songs, they don't need permission (I think) but they do need to pay royalties. I'm showing my age here but I remember when Vanilla Ice released Ice Ice Baby, he used a sample from the song Under Pressure (by Queen and David Bowie) Queen sued and Vanilla Ice was forced to pay over a percentage of all the profits from the single. FallenPaladin 0 Posted March 7, 2002 Here are many Operation Flashpoint fans around! If there is somebody reading this who has access to all the kind of weapon, engine or other military sounds, maybe he would give his permission to use them to Satchel. If he was a true fan he would Let`s hope! BTW don`t be sad, placebo, I remember Vanilla Ice too. You are not THAT old
ralphwiggum 6 Posted March 7, 2002 no...he is old.....i remember that white guy when i was little. anyway, speaking of V.Ice, he'll be in celebrity boxing match, recorded by FOX networks. If you don't know FOX network, here are some great examples of the network's quality program. the simpsons family guy x-files that 80's show that 70's show titus the Bernie mac show cops america's most wanted world's wildest police chase who wants to marry a millionaire bachelor? temptation island and all the great family-value quality entertainment! jjl9999 0 Posted March 9, 2002 I also got the problem. I was coming from an "addon" I have made myself for testing. (And was running correctly in 1.30). By removing the addon it worked ok. I suppose that I was lucky that the problem was coming from my addon, I suppose it may come from any other addons, and then is more difficult to find... It seems that BIS has added some checkings about addons (linked to some config.cpp modifications that are no more allowed). This is confusing because I do not know how to check what is allowed or not in config.cpp modifications ! So you can probably solve your problem by removing addons. Only one or 2 of them are causing the problem I suppose.
