Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm trying to patch my 1.05 Armed Assault to 1.08 on my Windows Server 2003 dedicated server tower and I get the following error when trying to run the exe:

Windows cannot open this program because the license enforcement system has been tampered with or become corrupted

I've tried downloading the patch over and over again, and even a downloaded version of the game which I purchased a while ago (that comes prepatched to 1.08) that I downloaded gave me the same error. Everything else that I download works correctly regardless of what it is - so the Hard Drive isn't bad.

Could someone please help me with this situation, as it's quite annoying and perplexing.

You'll get responses right from "Software Piracy is illegal" to "One of the software policies you've set on the 2003 Server box is interefering with the installation" to "Logon with the Administrative account."

With some other installation updates if you try to run the update directly from the rar file, without extracting it onto another, oh, say, your desktop first, it will do the same.

I would say that either the 1) download is corrupt 2) 2003 Server Web Edition is not supported as an OS for the installer used 3) You've created software policies that don't allow the installation of certain software?

Not necessarily. It might indicate that there was some noise in the transmission that wasn't filtered out by the checksum or whatever it uses.

You could always give your hard drive a checkdisk test. It cam be found in the properties of your hdd on the same page as the defragger.

I keep re downloading it on the server tower and my own computer. Works on my own computer, but not on the Windows Server 2003 computer. Could it be an OS problem? Has anyone else has this problem while working with Windows Server 2003?

The only officially supported operating systems fpr ArmA are Windows 2000 nd XP. Server 2003 is not supported, probably because it's a server OS - i.e. not supposed to be used as a desktop environment for gaming.

Since the game works on your main computer, I assume the problem is 100% OS related. Sometimes it helps to copy some certain XP DLLs to your Server 2003 installation.

Over at ETQW, some guys copied the rsaenh.dll from XP and it made the latest ETQW version work on Win Server 2003. Maybe it will help here too?

I have read that Win 2003 server has problems with certain installers, its more than likely a problem with the OS.

Where would this rsaenh.dll be found? /WINDOWS?

Nevermind, I found it but the server already has it in it's system32 folder and it's being used by some program, going to see if a reboot fixes it. If anyone knows that application it's linked to, that'd help.

Are you running Windows 2003 Web Edition Server?

It could be ur RAM to cause those corrupted files. Run memtest . let it run 1 pass to see if u get errors. usually 1 or more errors means that one of the sticks are bad.

Oh you did?

Okay, so you said "I'm trying to patch my 1.05 Armed Assault to 1.08 on my Windows Server 2003 dedicated server tower"

Which Windows2003 Server:

Web Edition? Web SP2? Standard SP2? Standard R2? Enterprise SP2? Enterprise R2? Datacenter SP2? Datacenter R2?

hence the "Are you running Web Edition?" Web Edition reportedly has problems with some types of installers. If by chance it is corrupted, and your drive turns up clean after running a chkdsk /f /r then I would suspect your (if you have one) router/firewall. My old firewall, SMC Barricade, bit it and began corrupting some downloads, while not corrupting others.

$50 on WebEdition-Doesn't-Like-The-Installer for the win.

Ah, okay. I didn't know there was a difference in them. I'll find out what type it is, have it do a chkdsk, and I'll get back to you.

I really appreciate the help.

First off I'm sorry for bumping this thread. I know it old but I'm having the very same problem even still.

As stated the above mentioned posts, I never found out what version of Windows Server 2003 it's running. But with that being said, I came up with a possible solution...

Manual install. How could I manually take the files that the patch installs and manually overwrite/add them into my directory for said files. Does anyone have a list of files the update to 1.08 updates?
