THE_BLITZ 0 Posted October 11, 2007 my game is still slow even on very low/60hz 1 GB (or 960 Mb IDK) Ram GeForce 6150Le with 256 Mb or Ram Amd Athlon 64x2 Dual with 2 GHz each processer 3800+ any ideas?
tomcat_ 0 Posted October 11, 2007 this thread is better suited for troubleshooting.. it seems that you have the onboard graphics 6150... sorry to disappoint you but with onboard graphics games do not play at all...let alone arma which is power hungry.. i would suggest you get a good gfx card...or any gfx card that ur budget can afford....game will be much better... and by the way...i had the 6 series motherboard 2 of them...and used them as server...but they are prone to freeze ups...they are alergic to some memory and PSUs.... THE_BLITZ 0 Posted October 11, 2007 i was gonna get a 7900-i should rite? or whats the best deal plz move to troubleshooting
tomcat_ 0 Posted October 11, 2007 depends on ur budget really.. 7900gs if you can find any in stock is an average card on budget.. best cards around this time are the 8800gts/gtx...however they are quite pricy... mid pack 7900gs or 1950xt are good choices... do you experience any freeze ups with that system?
Sevan 0 Posted October 11, 2007 I would recommened the 8800GTS series of cards. For just a bit more money you get a significant improvement in performance over budget cards.

Madus_Maximus 0 Posted October 11, 2007 That graphics chip is more for desktop work like a person in a call centre would use, it's not really a gaming chip. Anything X600 and up (the X being the model range, eg 6600, 7600, 8600) are the gaming cards. Google the model of the motherboard you have in your rig and see if it has a PCI-Express slot, and check out what it supports. You're usually fairly future proof if you have a good motherboard as you won't need to change your whole set up when changing just one part then.
King-Six 0 Posted October 12, 2007 well you can do 1 of a couple of options, i see alot of people recomending the 8800gts. but if you get an 8800, dont buy a gts. get the gtx and be done with it. people dont seem to realize that you are a fool to not buy the best product. even if you dont have enough money to buy the best product, save it untill you do, go pawn some stuff around the house, whatever is needed. because if you dont youll just be buying another card later. spend the 600 bucks now and you wont have to buy another video card. sped 250 and i will guarantee you cash money that within 5 years youll be looking for another card that you already should have bought. it makes me laugh to see people saying buy the gts version the gtx is a superior card. if not the best card on the market.. Are you serious? No card on the market is going to be good enough in 5 years if you want to run latest games. Buying the best on the market is not always the best idea as often it offers a poor value for money which is important for people on a tight budget. For a GTX he would definitely need a new, high quality power supply too so add another $100. Personally if I had a 3800+ processor and only 1GB of RAM I wouldn't spend all my money on a graphic card alone. That processor is probably going to bottleneck the GTX so you end up with a poorly balanced system.
Madus_Maximus 0 Posted October 12, 2007 The best thing to do is wait for the GeForce 9 series to come out then the 8 series will go down in price. They should be out before the end of the year. You can get the best of the last gen, which is most often the best thing to do as it's tried and true and you'll have a while to wait before any games need anything more than what you get. Also you'll want to make sure that your motherboard supports a PCI-X card. It should do but you never know. If it's a prebuilt like a Dell then chances are it wont, they tend to give you hardware that's good enough to do what it's meant for but they leave very little room for upgrades. They normally give you a pretty poor motherboard with something like a mighty 2 more ram slots!

bigdog632 0 Posted October 12, 2007 k. ill save for a GeForce 8800 GFX. plz dont argue over a simple question saving is a good thing but also keep up on tech news because once you have enough something better may come along and you would prolley be better off getting the newer product.....but check out reviews and such make sure it doesn't have issues before you buy it
kklownboy 43 Posted October 12, 2007 Alot depends on the resolution of your Monitor. If you have a 17in CRT, then a 8600 will be ok. If you have a 19in LCD, then you would want to go 8800 ect. If you play other games, and or wish to play new DX10 games coming. you may want to go to a new platform altogether. I am not even sure your current motherboard is even PCIe? So you can only get a AGP card....there are no 8xxx AGP cards.
THE_BLITZ 0 Posted October 12, 2007 YOU MEAN I NEED A NEW COMPUTER? I JUST GOT THIS ONE AND THEY SAID IT'D BE GREAT FOR GAMES!!!!
kklownboy 43 Posted October 12, 2007 YOU MEAN I NEED A NEW COMPUTER? I JUST GOT THIS ONE AND THEY SAID IT'D BE GREAT FOR GAMES!!!! lol i dont know, but for me i cant see any thing less than 2500$ for a gaming rig. Your 3800 is slow and old by about two years, your graphX is a no go for new games (last 2 years) with any res over 1024/768. you would have to run Arma at 800/600 with everything on lowest, so it would look like crap. I think your MB(motherboard) has a PCI-e slot? so you can get a nice vidcard. Which will make a big difference. With your current set up i wouldnt spend more than 150$ on a vidcard, unless you new you would upgrade the rest soon. Just what is your comp?
