Porting Terrains?

Recommended Posts

The developers have stated that porting addons will be much easier from ArmA to ArmA2 as opposed to OFP-->ArmA, but how will it work for terrains/islands/maps or whatever you want to call them?

Mainly I'm thinking of object, ArmA has a lot of mediterranean style objects etc. but ArmA will be set in an easter european setting so I presume none of the south Sahrani objects will be inside ArmA 2?

If indeed that's the case, would we be allowed to port the ArmA1 objects into ArmA2 so we don't have to completely redo our maps, or maybe even not able at all due to the lack of objects?

This should be in ArmA2 General, please move.

We have in ArmA almost all the objects from OFP so i hope that bIS will keep those objects on engine. By looking those screens of Arma 2 so far i am quite confident that there ArmA island ´ll work also on ArmA 2 liek they are now.

Well an addon maker could always put the ArmA stuff into an addon.

One of the ArmA 2 videos showed an Mi-24 flying over what looked like Porto from Queens gambit whistle.gif

i dont suppose they can comment until they get a publisher.

maybe they will say no way are you going to let people port over, when we can sell them some new things . i guess thats a buisness way of looking at it, but history says bis will make it as easy as is possible within the realms of new games and all that comes with it.

They already found a new less laggy way of creating trees so as long as the naming convention stays the asme we should be ok unless arma 2 has deformable terrain and changes the whole way islands are built ?

Yes I am sure it wouldn't be a problem technically to port the objects if they're not included in ArmA2, I'm thinking more in the direction if we're allowed to do so legally.

Maybe its too soon to enter this subject for ArmA 2.

BIS are the only people who can talk, clarify about this subject.

As you know ArmA 2 is in progress, but what if ArmA 2 has deformable terrain and changes the whole way islands are built, as ofp2 said.

BIS also should know that people like Opteryx are doing a great job on terrains/islands/maps, hes making realistic maps, (Real pic, ArmA pic1, ArmA pic2) and would be nice to give some extra ideas/advices on how the porting will work so they can start making these maps thinking about ARMA2. Because ArmA 2 is the future.

@Opteryx: hope to see your maps in ArmA2. There for do some work in advance, start making them good for ARMA1 as it was for ArmA2. I say this because if you complete these maps good and fast we will have completed missions for ArmA 2 when it arrives to us.

Your maps would be as OFP inslands were for ARMA, ie, OFP islands were very appreciated when they were ported to ARMA. wink_o.gif
